Sorry gent's but IMHO the Scorpion is one of the least attractive options available.

Choose a tyre that suites your requirements, even though the Scorpion is M + S it will not cut the mustard on snow. Andy.

I found the scorpions didn't give confidence in light snowy conditions (they were down to 4mm), so changed them for wintrac 4's. The biggest difference in snow was that I felt safer, especially in the heavy stuff and they are also great in the wet. I have a second set of alloys with Scorpions that I find great from April to November.

To be fair, I think any tyre down to 4mm is likely to be dodgy in snow, probably even Wintracs. I had no trouble in deep snow with new Wranglers, but I wouldn't trust worn ones to be much good. Although a 4mm tyre may appear to be "half worn" in reality it has lost well over half of its grip. Of course since I bought the Wintracs I haven't seen ANY snow!

France 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Fuji White

Used them for 2 winters now in the Pyrenees - I live at 1800m and they get me up my 1:5 drive no problem and back from Barca airport at night in a blizzard. The FL2 traction control squeezes every last ounce of grip out of them

Yes I can go faster in my old FL1 with full winters on, but m/s tyres are always a compromise and if it gets really bad I just chuck chains on Smile

The Zeros do seem to be wearing quite fast. Can't compare mileages directly as I change to winter tyres in (yes) winter - but my Wintracs have worn less over two winters than the Zeros over one summer. I'm rotating them now with the spare, with the aim of getting four Wranglers when they wear out and just keeping the best of the Zeros for an emergency spare. At this rate I might just get three summers out of them, so I might be changing car instead of tyres! Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Santorini Black

Mine has had Pirelli Scorpion Zeros since new and the fronts have lasted 18k miles and the backs 20k-ish per set, with even wear across all tyres.

It sounds as though opinion is divided on them - so which summer tyres seem to be favoured these days? Not interested in tyres with off-road ability - my priority is on-road.

I think I'd go for Wranglers - they seem to last much longer than Scorpions. But they do get noisy once they are down to about 4mm.
My tyre man sings the praises of Kumho - don't know if anyone here has tried their less aggressive versions. though. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Very happy with my General Grabber GTs, but too early to say how well they'll wear. Handle at least as well as the Zeros IMO and wouldn't say that they were noisy.
