Wales 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 Dynamic Manual Fuji White
Dynamic towbar advice

Hi all,

Picked up a Fuji White Dynamic last week and love it! I traded in my beloved Defender 110 TD5 XS which I used for everything including towing a sankey military trailer.
The new car has no tow bar and I need one ASAP and am going to go for a detachable swan neck with 13 pin electrics. I've read loads on here about cutting the rear skirt etc but can't seem to find the answers I'm after;
Can I fit a witter detachable without cutting? (Any photos???)
Do I go for the witter electrics or LR??
Can I use the witter bracket or do I need the dynamic specific one from LR?? (£40!!!)

I'm going to fit it myself and need to keep the long haired general happy about the price.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

My sankey trailer is now redundant and looking for a good home. Big Cry

Please help.

Ash

I looked and bought a genuine Landrover one from Nick at Yeovil Landrover (TLO on the Disco3 forum). Not really that expensive, and I don't see the issue with cutting the bumper - the car will go with the towbar fitted.

I fitted it myself and although slightly daunting taking the back end off it went together easily in an afternoon with breaks.

I'm not a fan in any shape of form with detachable towbars. Too many stories of wobbles, theft etc. I have fixed towbars on 2 FL2s and my Disco 3. Never been a moments bother. I fail to see why you wouldn't want one bolted on.

New Witter R41au detachable swan neck towbar fitted this afternoon by me...not too hard to do actually.
No requirement for ANY bumper cuts or damage to the rear sport skirt. The electrical socket bracket fits easily with the witter kit and is nowhere near the skirt (no requirement for the £40 LR dynamic specific bracket!).

Looks really good and can't see anything when the bar is detached.

Apache,
I decided to fit a detachable bar after constant knocking my shins on my old defender tow ball / nato tow jaw.
Each to their own I guess. I'm happy with it at the moment but do need to fit a ball hitch to my sankey trailer and have some fabrication done to lower the trailer A-frame. Another project for these rainy welsh days!

Fir my 2010GS I fitted a Witter detachable and used LR electrics.
.
One problem to sort was the LR socket bracket was too close to the lock barrel for securing the detach neck.
.
I bought another pair of bolts for the detach socket housing and welded the bolt heads back to back this allowing to spanner up to fasten the housing, slip on the socket bracket and secure with washers and nuts.
.
The spacer effect gives just enough room to insert the key.
.
Kind regards from Fred.

Fred,
My socket bracket is in the left and the lock mechanism is on the right. Chuffed that I had no bumper to cut. I'll put some photos on tomorrow for the dynamic types!

Hi Ash,
Mine has the two 7 pin sockets so I have one each side, hence having to sort the clearance for the Key!
