Mirror, mirror, on the door..

Hello folks,

This is my first post here, although I do spend a lot of time on Martins' other sites, Def2 and Disco3. Anyway, I wondered if anybody could help with a door mirror query?

Last weekend an incident with a Transit van left the drivers' door mirror on my wifes' Freelander smashed to bits. I duly ordered a replacement from eBay (heated, powerfold, but without the puddle light, which I'd forgotten about) and with the help of a superb guide found on this site, replaced it in about half an hour. All seemed to work as intended (except the puddle light Rolling Eyes ) but today my wife tells me it doesn't re-adjust itself when reverse is selected. I'd assumed that this feature would be a function of the mirror ecu rather than the unit itself, but now I'm wondering whether it's 'mirror specific' Confused Either that or perhaps the new mirror needs enabling in some way?

So, can anybody tell me whether I've just bought the wrong mirror or do I need to get the car plugged in to some sort of diagnostic equipment to get it to work as expected?

Thanks in advance. Darren

Have you tried resetting the mirror to the reversing position:
1) Select reverse
2) Adjust the mirror to your reverse position
3) Save it using the seat memory settings.

Hi Darren,

I assume you've adjusted the mirror to suit in both forward and reverse modes? Sorry if this is obvious.

No, but I'll give it a go when I'm home later. Thanks for the idea. Darren

Have a feeling they're different units. When I had a similar problem with a door mirror Dan@DuckworthParts asked for my VIN to ensure he supplied the correct unit for the vehicle.

Really? That doesn't bode well, then. I'll try resetting it as above but if that doesn't work I'll get in touch with Dan Sad Darren

I'm fairly sure that not all model variants share the same door mirror, or at least the housing is not the same. From bird's eye view some have curved housing and higher spec models have straight housing, which can affect security of extension mirrors for towing. 2007 SE Manual : Gone and missed but 2013 HSE Lux is better!
Series IIa : Gone but hopefully still alive.

Early models up to 2010 had mirrors with a curved visor and fixed covers, later models then had a straight visor with removable covers, then they seemed to change them again a couple of years ago.

Thanks chaps. The replacement mirror is definitely the same style - it matches the one on the other door. Also, all the references I've found talk about '07 to '12. There are clearly different versions though - heated, heated/powerfold, heated/powerfold/puddle light, etc.

Anyway, managed to have a play this evening and have established that the replacement mirror doesn't respond to any memory function. It doesn't re-set when different seat memories are selected and nor does it dip/re-set when reverse is selected. The handbook does state that the 'dip on reverse' function can be enabled by a dealer so I'm still stuck with not knowing whether the mirror is the wrong variant or just in need of programming Confused Darren

In order for the mirror to respond to memory functions, it needs to have a feedback potentiometer built into the mirror housing.
So either this is missing or the cables to mirror connector are also missing.
Or both.
It's quite likely therefore, that there is both a non memory and memory mirror Thumbs Up Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Bit the bullet and ordered a new one today - £182 from Yeovil Land Rover and should arrive early next week.

Anybody need a good condition heated, powerfold but non memory drivers side door mirror? Rolling Eyes Darren
