Steering 'clunk'...???

Hi All,
Just took my 08 FL2 diesel out for a spin and noticed a small 'clunk' when turning the steering wheel .... Thoughts?
Wheel nuts tight
No feel of slack from the ball joints....
Steering fluid at normal level...
No difference of turn rate between steering wheel and front wheels...
Clunk starts early in the steering travel and is consistently there...
Tell me it's not the rack....pls... 2008 TD4 ripe for mods
