I'm doing a solo trip to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier park (between South Africa and Botswana) in 3 weeks which will entail lots of chilling time in the back of the Freely, just watching the animal world go by

Its a desert, so hot during the day and would like to keep the windows open for extended periods but also would need to close them quickly should a lion or hyena wonder by

My obvious solution will be to keep the ignition on but I'm not sure what this will do the vehicle - certainly cannot afford to get stuck, literally, out alone in the bundu's

Will be there for 8 days and , if possible, will be doing this everyday

any risk? could it fry something?

How about if you left the windows open with the ignition off, then if you needed to you could use the remote lock/window close function on the remote key? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I know how to OPEN the windows using the fob, never knew one could also close them!!

Just keep your finger on the fob lock button, don't try pressing again to attempt a double lock though.

You can double lock and hold the button on second press and close windows too.

Yes, but he's inside of the car and want's to do it, the movement sensor will set the alarm off on a double lock.

At least that should scare off the marauding lions and hyenas...

my Freely does not have the movement sensor - alarm is limited to the doors

but great tips on closing the windows though

I've decided to only open the windows enough which will not allow a lions head through -now just to find our resident lion for measurements

Years ago I worked in SA for a year. I took a trip up to the Pilanesberg national park, it was great seeing loads of different animals up close. Best one was a giraffe that was quite happily eating leaves about 2 meters away from the car. I worked in Cape Town too for a year in 1982. Lived in a place called Bellville. Saw a giraffe too. They are bloody tall close-up.

Here's me and my girlfriend (now my wife) with some Zulus when we went to Durban for a break. Got homesick after a year, did a midnight flit from the company flat, got an early morning flight from Jan Smuts to Durban, got on a ship and had a 3-week cruise to Athens and made our way home from there. Epic journey all those years ago.
