A question to those with MY2013 rear LED lights fitted, either from build or retrofitted. I did a 4 hour drive on Wednesday afternoon from Bristol to Oxford and back. It was a drizzly sort of day and Oxford was badly hit by flooding so all-round, the relative humidity was high and the temperature was about 6 deg C. On getting back to Bristol, I noticed that the inside of the rear light cluster was fogged up.



Question, is this a consequence of the sidelight/indicator bulbs now being LEDs in that there is insufficient heat within the cluster to dissipate fogging? Has anyone else noticed this issue?

Any comments gratefully received.

Mine does exactly the same. It will clear......sometime when its hot and dry

Mine has done it once, when it was parked in the sun. The handbook mentions fogging in the headlamps, but not the rear lights. I think it's something to keep an eye on and query at next service. If it clears, then it's probably OK. If it's there all the time there must be a problem.

Occasionally a bit of fogging happens on my MY 2013 as well, then it goes. Same with fronts, too. I am sure my old '07 plate lights did it as well. Seems normal unless it stays. 2016 BMW X3 30d SE in red

Ditto * GONE. GS TD4 Manual MY2013. Orkney Grey with privacy, cold and clearview packs, armrests (a must!) and a spoiler.

Looks like we have our own club! Noticed condensation this morning, on the inside of both rear light covers, after a frosty night. However, there was nothing on the lenses. All clear after day warmed up a bit. 2007 SE Manual : Gone and missed but 2013 HSE Lux is better!
Series IIa : Gone but hopefully still alive.

Mine was the plastic edge where it meets the boot lid at the top,black silicon sorted it.

Mine too....front and back, I pulled them out and dried them with a hairdryer.....never happened again on the fronts. Freelander 2 XS MY 2012, 19" rims, Barolo Black. Privacy glass, spoiler.

Mine too, when huge temperature changes are in place: -22 outside then driving into heaeted parking (+15).

Cleared through the night, then never happened again.

I have noticed it on my MY 13, especially when the sun is on it. I don't recall it being a problem on my MY 07. One rear light cluster was changed on that car under warranty due to moisture at a service without me even mentioning it.

Have they put some holes in the unit now it used LEDs? If it is is all plastic now then corrosion shouldn't be a problem.

Maybe it is the same principle as plastic caravan windows that have vent plugs in them to allow air in and out of the cavity. If those get misted up you can use a hairdryer to clear it. GONE - '07 TD4 GS manual Zermatt Silver

This fogging has happened on her Ladyship's MY 10.
Pointed it out at the 2nd year service to the garage and they said: "first we have to do a low level repair with silicon around the line of the clear lens meeting the black plastic housing - then you run with it for 3 mths or so and if that hasn't cured it we are told to refer it for a warranty replacement." They went on to say that it has to be really bad for the regional manger to approve a replacement. So I said have they replaced any - no was the answer!

Well after the clear silicon application it continued to fog but only at low levels and always clear when the temperature rises.
