Scotland 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Sumatra Black
Keep or Change?

Just away to tip over the 100k miles. 57 plate XS. I've just put on new tyres and new rear handbrake, discs, pads, cables new MOT. Seems to be running fine now. Starting to think about changing the car. Spotted a handful of cars I could possibly get. 2011 GS at £15000 with 53k on it or 2009 XS with 31k. I was recently offered £8500 for mine on a trade in. Is it worth splashing out another £6500 to get the same car with 60,000 less miles on it + 2 years newer? Would the 2011 GS be better? Or does anyone think I should just stick with the one I've got for a couple of more years. I Drive 15,000 year.

We are in the same boat....Freelander 2 has reached 100,000 miles and my wife does 20,000 miles a year in it, we have decided to keep it and I will run it most of the time as I only do 5,000 miles and it will cost me less to run than my pick up truck that does 25mpg, the wife will then buy a new car for herself, I have seen plenty with 150k+ miles so they must be capable of this Black FL2

Personally I think you have answered your own question - i would have been looking to replace it without spending money on tyres, pads etc. FL2 prices are still at their usual seasonal high and should drop slightly with the warmer weather coming so perhaps wait until the summer to see whats around. Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black

I know what you mean as I'm in a similar boat, mine has just clocked 140,000klms (approx 87,000miles) and is running superb and still looks brand new. I would love to purchase another FL2 with lower Klms however can't justify spending an extra $10,000 on a car for it to run the same way as mine. I think if the cars been looked after, you know the history and what's been serviced or replaced, better the devil you know I think, that's my theory anyway!!

It's a bit of a lottery really.....you could keep it two more years until it's got 130,000 miles and maybe lose another £2k from the price or swap now and spend the £6k needed, how much money do you have In the bank?? Very Happy Black FL2

I would keep it till a facelift model becomes available at a price you can afford then go for it. In the meantime make use of it as you have spent out a fiar bit on new tyres and stuff Very Happy

The consensus seems to be keep it…which seems to be a not bad idea. However today I ended up having to have it towed away! I think a hose on the power steering burst-so hopefully nothing too catastrophic.

I'm just coming up to only 30k on my 10 plate XS and it is needing new tyres, has another 4 months to final free service and MOT, but stealers are offering 5 years free servicing and 10 years MOT at the moment, so is it new tyres, new car, ex-demo?

10 years MOT is most probably more of a take-away rather than a give-away.

The garage knows that it will get the MOT failure work, even if a guarantee exists for the first year or so. Many failure points will be wear and tear and not count as warranty.

With regard to changing you probably have to put the pros and cons on a balancing act. If you've only got the 30 k miles on the clock then there's no 'mechanical' reason to change yet if youve got the 100k car and 'spare' cash then maybe it's a good reason to change.

I personally don't think that tyres can be used as a reason to change , unless you are buying a new Freely you are buying part worn tyres with ' a car on the top' so you are still going to have to buy tyres in say 18,000 miles. (Supposing they last 36k and they are half worn.

I traded up in Jan from an 07 GS manual with 85k which I bought at a year old. I had put new tyres on last spring and a new battery in October. However, I do tow a caravan and it was still on its original clutch.

I now have an ex-demo MY13 SD4 XS so that is probably a bit newer than you are looking at. Any car at 100k will need money spent on it every year but it will be far less than the depreciation on a newer car (I would hope Confused ) GONE - '07 TD4 GS manual Zermatt Silver

Aye, good point about the depreciation...factoring that in would make it seem more value in keeping it. As long as nothing too major needs fixed. Like a totally caput engine or something.
