Ireland 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 S Manual Stornoway Grey
Issues with 2011 Freelander II - anyone else had same?

I love my Freelander II - bought it new July 2011 - TD4 S. Very early on it had to have a new onboard computer/display as the readouts were really wacky - displayed fuel empty when just filled, etc.
At 50,000km approx it had to have the rear diff replaced - as was making the most awful loud whining noise.
Have had problem with smoke and hydraulic oil smell in wet weather over past year - dealer told me it was DPF regenerating and 'normal' at first but just had 3rd service and told them that it has been hesitant on take off recently and still having the burning oil smell and smoke occasionally - they've now decided its all turbo related and are going to replace that!
I also need a new tailgate light as that is holding water and leaking inside the car.
The car has 73,000 km on the clock - I love it but it doesn't fill me with confidence that major parts have needed to be replaced so far - I use it mostly on good roads for work never offroad. Anyone have similar issues?

B

Regarding the burning smell and smoke. I just received a letter yesterday for a recall effecting the fuel spill rail connector leaking causing diesel fuel burning on top of the engine with a danger of it going onto the exhaust manifold.

It effects 2012-2014 models though and you have a 2011 model. I've been getting intermittent smell of smoke and visible smoke around the headlights from under the bonnet. Could never trace it though.

Hi B,

High level brake light a common problem. Had mine replaced under warranty last year, seems to have fixed it. Mine is a 2011, same model bought new and no other issues, although it is just a week out of warranty now!!!

i just sealed my high level brake light with silicon sealant on the plastic.
no more problems ! Laughing
its a very thin layer, so its no problem taking the light off, but it keeps the water out.. even using the high pressure hose !

Yes,
I,ve had the Diff replaced on my 2010 Freelander with only 20,000 miles on the clock! Well known Freelander manufacturing fault but they have not done a recall for this problem.
