Its just been debated on the radio, lots of people don't like horses on the Jeremy Vine show. I grew up in East Yorkshire and there were many horse riders about, I always try and give as much room to horse riders as I can. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

I just carry on as normal when is see ahorse on road, if they cant control the beasts dont be on road.

I have tried slowing etc but received such a small amount of thanks, they seem to take me slowing as a god given.


then I do have inbuilt horse rage, my sisters had the stinky things and guess who got to muck the stables out  At work

I did read this article with interest...
I do my very best never to ride on the road but occasionally to get to my riding areas a short jog through the village is required.
My horse is classed as bombproof. Lorries, tractors, gritting lorry (ok so he did go a bit Spanish riding school when that went past spraying us with grit). We always ride single file. always acknowledge people for courtesy, get out of the way to let people past. Even deliver organic speed humps for the council traffic calming measures.
We are all trying to get some where, whether it be on foot, pony, bike, car or tractor. I think it's high time that certain people just chilled out. Including horn beeping Audi drivers... Oh and the motorcyclist who thought it would be funny to try and scare big Wes by doing a wheelie past him ( )....he must have been so disappointed when Wes just gave him a hairy eyeball.
My horse also has a job. I've been known to put my vet drugs in a back pack and ride out to local farms. Even took him TB testing. The farrier wants to steal him and train him as a logging horse.

Reading the report in the link provided, without wishing to typecast, but, Audi, teenager, already 3 points, car way over what a normal young driver would have, Daddy bought it, driving like a ok the rider contributed to this but the Audi driver fired the first shot, but I think the rider was treated badly, the driver is a . IMHO.

He was lucky, if he had spooked the horse and it had landed on his bonnet, who would be at fault then. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Some horse riders, it must be said, are as bad as Audi drivers. I lived for a while near the racing stables in the Lambourn/Newbury area, and some of the stable lads there are a nightmare - they're aggressive, ride around in packs, and don't even try to make room for the traffic. Not all, by any means, but more than the odd one.

But even there I'd never think of using the horn. However much the rider might deserve it the horse doesn't, and if you spook the horse you might end up with a horseshoe-shaped dent in your car, or even an injured or dead horse or rider.

So whatever the rider is doing, consider the animal and the potential consequences of scaring it.

I think the age of the Audi driver and inexperience certainly had a large part to play in this case, obviously not helped by the reaction of the rider.

i always slow down and give plenty of room for horses, no problem with them using B roads.

Contrary to my last comment I do give cyclists room, even though I dislike them, in my line of work I'm going to come into contact with both, because at the end of the day it's a human life that's at risk and I couldn't live with myself if I injured one due to inpatience. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200
