United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Santorini Black
trapped wire

i've been noticing a vibration from behind the dash ( under the bonnet) when reversing uphill or at low engine speeds
but haven't had a chance to invstigate until today,
i've posted 3 pics on the galleries page & reckon it's worth a look
in pic 1 ( & i'm not claiming to know what goes on in these black boxes)
the vibration was caused by units 1 & 2 rubbing against eachother
it was only while trying to keep them apart i noticed that the cable from part 3
was routed between them & the outer sleeve was being damaged ( pic 2 part 4)
my fix was to pull the cable free & wedge in a couple of foam blocks to stop the rubbing,
i'm not sure what would have happened if the cable had been rubbed through, but i've a feeling
it wouldn't have been good,
otherwise 3000 miles, 34 mpg ish & still happy

G

If the wires that were trapped go to that connector, that connector is for the MAF sensor (Mass Air Flow) and the wires should be fixed to Box No 2 (Dirty Air Box) Thats where the air filter is. Box 1 is the Battery cover. If the wire is damaged you should put it back where it was remove any additional things you have put there (the foam for example) and return the car to the dealers service department, they well then report it back to Landrover who will then put checks in place to prevent it happening to other cars and maybe get dealers to check already sold cars when they are serviced.

absolutely jam80s , i'm too busy over the next two weeks to get the car to the dealer,
but it's top of my list of things to do,
as i said the wires haven't been damaged, just the sleeve, but i have no doubt that
they would have been shredded in time.

United Kingdom

Thanks for that. Just checked mine and found the cable from 3 to be loose. I found a plastic screw attached to the wire and on closer inspection a female socket fixed to the rear of box 2 which the screw push fits into. All is now well - I hope!
