I am swapping from continental to Pirelli tyres soon, just wondered what the opinion is of the pirellis ?? Black FL2

Had both and no real difference that I noticed. I found the Pirellis are slightly better in the wet but not very good on those icy mornings. To be fair they were down to about 3mm and I was sliding everywhere until I put Wintrac 4's on.
So new Pirellis's for summer and Wintracs for winter and I'm happy. _________________

I have a set of 19" Continentals for everything more than seriously frosty weather. If you intend to use your FL2 in snow, ice or heavy frost, I would advise that you invest some money in either a set of winter tyres or something better suited to driving on loose surfaces.

I also have a set of General Grabber AT2s on 17" rims in the garage for when they weather turns nasty and I can tell you that my reasoning for doing this was because the Continental Cross Contacts have absolutely zero grip on anything but dry or wet roads. As i'm sure you are aware, it matters less what you drive than it does how but tyres make a huge amount of difference in critical situations.

As far as rating the Continentals goes, I think they're pretty good Spring, Summer, Autumn tyres but I have found that their abilities deteriorate as soon as Winter begins. I have never come unstuck with them on dry roads and yes, I have tested their limits for my own satisfaction. They do have a fair amount of movement in the sidewall and so cornering can become quite a squishy affair compared to a tyre with a stiffer sidewall. This can lead to a greater understanding of steering dynamics but i'm being quite picky when I say that and I appreciate that most drivers won't know the first thing about such things until their car slides off a frosty road due to their inability to corner properly. They aren't particularly noisy tyres either. Whereabouts unknown stop going to follow stream until reach civilisation stop message ends

I totally agree about the poor cornering ability of the 19" continentals, feels very "squishy" when cornering ! Hopefully the 18" Pirelli will be an improvement Black FL2
