2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HST Manual Santorini Black
Strange Satnav screen appearing "grainy"

Hi all,

Noticed strange behaviour on the Satnav screen the last week or so on my 2007 Freelander 2 hst

The Satnav image flickers like a weak signal or interference, still works but image appears grainy (best way I can think to describe it).

Restarting ignition sometimes cures, problem has only just started occurring and is intermittent

The screen is not at fault as on menu or clock screensaver its fine only grainy when on navigation

Popped DVD disc out and cleaned it but problem still occurs disc looks like I has some minor surface scratches

Thinking either a new disc required due to scratches affecting reading of disc ( dunno how they occur and seems unlikely cause to me), clean DVD lens or is it a gps receiver at fault or wiring/earth fault?

Anyone shed any light or had similar experience before I send it to Lr?

Thanks in advance
Kieran

My screen does exactly the same.
When it's been on a bit goes grainy.
Seems to come and go like interferance.
Maybe its the aerial thing on roof? 07 SE manual, Narvick black.

Check your brightness settings. Also night (when lights on) settings. If set too low can seem to be "grainy" 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

I've got a similar intermittent problem. When SatNav is on, the background flickers but the text and buttons are clear and unaffected. LR took a look at it today and said there's a bulletin for it and have done a system update and checked the connections

Time will tell whether it's fixed but I provided them with video footage of it happening so hopefully that helped with the correct diagnosis.

Since I posted 12 months ago with the same problem Land Rover have had mine in 4 times to try and fix the SatNav screen issue. They've done a software update, reseated connectors, re-terminated connectors, removed/refitted cables 7 times to discharge static from the SatNav unit....all of which failed to fix the problem.

Finally they decided to change the screen and bingo it's been working fine since then. Luckily I had warranty coverage for it so I didn't have to pay.

The only time I ever had a problem with the sat nav screen being sort of grainy, and it was only the once, and that was when it was extremely cold, like minus 5C in the morning, so assumed it might have been caused by a low battery charge as the car hadnt been used for around 3 days?
