United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 i6 HSE Auto Zermatt Silver
Starting

Parked up on Wednesday afternoon in a public car park and headed of to a meeting. Returned to the car an hour later and it would not start. Upon pressing the start button got 5 seconds worth of clicking noises and a message in the right hand binnacle display something like '26 Service'. Called out Land Rover Assist (who were excellent in every way) who arrived within 30 minutes. After checking for flat battery, etc. the engineer realised it was that I had accidentally turned the steering wheel to tight when the steering wheel lock had come on. Apparently inserting the fob normally unlocks the steering wheel but if the wheel is in a position where it will not unlock then the car will not start. Quick wiggle of the wheel and it was sorted. So now I know.

Good info DT.

I think this is something for a little write up in the tips and tricks section.

I just tried to replicate this occurance, and failed so I guess the steering lock must have to be jammed on pretty tightly .. tighter than I was prepared to pull it as a test At work
