United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 i6 HSE Auto Zermatt Silver
Non-start with '26 Service' message

[Have posted on this before but at suggestion of Gambba am adding this to the ‘Tips’ library.]

Inserting the ‘key’ fob normally unlocks the steering wheel, allowing the engine to start. However, if the steering wheel is in a position where it will not unlock then the car will not start. So, if your Freelander 2 will not start and you are getting, upon pressing the start button, 5 seconds worth of clicking noises and a message in the right hand binnacle display something like, '26 Service', then check that you have not accidentally turned the steering wheel too tight whilst removing the key fob, such that the steering wheel lock will not release when you come to start the engine again. If you have, then a quick wiggle of the steering wheel and it should sort itself.

Happened to me and Land Rover Assistance quickly recognized and resolved the problem.
