This I can only describe as the engine trying to start up again but trying to stop,,,,if u know what I mean,,,fob in pressing stop button.only lasted 4/5 sec then stopped.sterted fine after,and no probs today with driving it,.....I happen once about 6 months ago,,,,any ideas 17,000 miles,61 plate manual.it sounded very rough,like a bag of nails being shaken. Current: Freelander 2 GS, Orkney Grey, Factory fit privacy glass, design pack and Clearview pack. Get the 'electronic throttle' looked at or check out the plug and socket feeding it, one of its uses is to shut the engine down cleanly with no shudder.

But if it is lasting 4/5 seconds then the electronic shut off of the injector system should not allow this, so if it is shudder then I suspect the throttle body but if it is trying to continue firing then the injector system is not shutting down.

...throttle sticking or DMF on its way ?....hard to tell without hearing it......if its DMF it should dissapear while stopping engine with clutch pressed...

It has happened once with mine in the 2 and a half years I've had it, never bothered to look into it and put it down to a 'glitch' but if it was a regular thing I would. The DMF stands for Dual Mass Flywheel and is part of the clutch system, used for smoothing out engine vibrations.
