Witter Detachable Towbar - Where to store Swan Neck?

Hi,

I fitted a Witter Detachable Towbar at the weekend - Took me a bit of time but very happy with the end result.

My question is about where to store the Swan Neck when not in use ? Just now I have just put down some bubble wrap in the spare wheel well and just put the swan neck in its bag and just placed it down beside the full size spare wheel that my FL2 has.

Something 'rings a bell' and hearing somewhere about Land Rover doing an accessory, maybe a bit of shaped polystyrene or something like that with a shaped space to hold the swan neck tidy & secure when not in use.

Is this right or what does everyone else do?

Like you I have the 'Witter' detachable and like you the bag goes snugly beside the spare wheel. If you want to design your own packaging foam then buy a block and cut to suit, I haven't heard of it as an accessory..

My towbar is a Brink/Thule and I have two swan-necks (one greasy ball and one dry ball) which both sit nicely in the spare wheel well.

In the small recess under the load space light so I do not have to remove all the car rallying gear to fit it if we have to tow out a dead car.

Thanks for all the replies guys.....

Not sure where but for some reason I have picked up the impression that there was this Land Rover accessory like a bit of shaped polystyrene that fitted the car body and around the spare tyre and had a hollow in it to take a detachable towbar that would be cheap & simple but effective - Must've dreamt it!

I can also see some worth in Bill T's comments about storing the swan neck in the wee ducket under the load space light as I have some junk in the boot just now & last night when I lifted the carpetted spare wheel compartment cover up to get the swan neck the cover slid out a few inches and I ended up having to take a lot of the stuff out the boot in order to lift up the cover at the rear beside the rear seats so I could slide the cover back in.

Chicken George ought to get in touch with The Caravan Club and start a 5 caravan CL club site, we could all take it in turns and visit him towing our caravans for the weekend - just think free eggs for breakfast, Roast Chicken for Sunday Lunch then we could fill his green plastic dustbin before we go home!!
George have you got Pigs as well to supply the bacon??

Whole point of buying a detachable tow bar is so you can remove it and not catch your leg on it when accessing the load area , plus which in the age of friction operated stabilisers to stop it rusting and most important of all so you can sneak past Chicken George and he will not know you are a caravan owner.

Seriously I am always amazed at the number of vehicles seen on the road with removable tow bars that have not been removed in aeons and if the need arose would be rusted up solid.
