England 2012 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Baltic Blue
Automatic Gearbox

Does anyone out there know who makes the auto gearbox used on the new Freelander SD4 (2013)? I thought that it might be Ford, but someone else has suggested Volvo.

Thanks

It's an Aisin AWF21 6 speed automatic.

Aisin is a Japanese Company.

Well that was unexpected. I have an SD4 on order, coming soon, is the box good? Is the mpg as bad as the book suggests? Automatic HSE SD4 - Baltic Blue

Box is amongst some of the smoother ones out there. although some people have said that the characteristics of the SD4 has meant that it is not as smooth as the TD4 - I cant comment but either way I think you will like it.

As for the MPG figures - what do you mean by book? No one ever gets as 'good' as the oficial figures so I guess yes it will be as bad as it suggests! Whistle Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

It is a pretty good gearbox, quite smooth gear changes and gives you the option of Drive and Sports modes and also a manual change if you desire.

In terms of fuel economy, there are plenty of threads on the subject. Best I've achieved was 38.2 mpg on a run from Leicestershire to Herefordshire at about 65mph on the motorway and 37.6 on the return journey and 70mph where possible but mostly 50-60mph. Average consumption on 'normal' driving likely to be in the region of 33-35mpg depending on style of driving, type of roads and how well run it the engine is.

Well all that is quite promising, it is about 7 years since I had an automatic - Volvo XC70. I am looking forward to it.

I currently average about 38mpg over a range of roads and driving conditions. The figures suggested look ok. Automatic HSE SD4 - Baltic Blue
