Hi New owner here,
Had a few years away from Landrover and now back with a freelander 2 SD4 auto.
Very pleased with first 800 miles from new in a week, much improved over the early Freelanders and the Disco 300 Tdi.
Just one possible problem
When starting from cold the last 2 days, engine very rough for a few minutes, it feels like it is running on 3 cylinders.
It quickly clears and settles to steady idle.
Any problem that i should look for or is this a characteristic?

A few minutes is a bit long really, mine stuttered last year at -12 but only for a few seconds after starting and quickly made a recovery. In temperatures this year I have not experienced the '3 cylinder' roughness but it seems to vary across the forum with some having it and some not, it is only the difficulty in detonation under very cold conditions but should last at most for only a few seconds.

i might have exaggerated with a few minutes, probably 20 - 30 seconds.
Previous diesel vehicles when very cold, i have turned on ignition and waited for glow plug light to go out before starting.
With this keyless thing (probably the only thing i do not like about the car) all you can do is press the button once in the car.

the cars automatically pauses for the glow plugs to do their thing, so there is no need to half turn the key, as such

you can still do this though, by pressing the start button without your foot on the brake/clutch down Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Welcome Fanman,i think I'm right in saying on the Freelander when engine start is pressed its all automatic,if glow plugs need warming the engine waits until ready before starting,only a second or two but it sorts its self out.

You should notice though about a 1-2 second delay from pressing the button to cranking at 0 to -1 degrees while the glowplugs do their job unless the delay operates differently with the new keyless.
