I assume you're only using the main beam feed to energise the relay coil and that you'll find another 12v fused feed for the additional lamps? Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

The only lights switched through relays are main beams and fog lights.
Exactly for this purpose of possibly installing additional lamps on these.
All other lamps are FET driven and I, for one, will be cautious on adding any extra lamps on them/FETs.

By taking the relay coil supply off the back of the left hand headlight connector (Orange / Yellow cable from memory) you avoid any issues with FETS as Alex stated. This cable runs straight back to the fuse box and battery via the main beam relay contacts, so it should be safe to use without the possibility of damaging anything. I will be taking the main auxiliary light power from the engine compartment fuse box at the side of the battery box via an inline 15 Amp fuse via a relay to be mounted on local bodywork.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I will copy some pictures etc. on my gallery when done.

I’m trying to complete by this weekend subject to the weather (not enough room to work in my garage).

Chris

Sounds spot on!
I don't know how long the feed is to the rear of the headlamp conn or how long the cable you are using to either side of 85/86 of the relay coil. Might be an idea to use the same size cable as the main beam feed (probably 2mm, i've not checked) even though we are talking less than 100Ma. Then safe in the knowledge that the fuse will rupture in a unlikley short circuit.
If you're mounting any terminal/eyelets underbonnet, make sure they are soldered and cover with dual wall hss to prevent water ingress.

Then again, i could be telling gran how to suck eggs. If so apologies Thumbs Up Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Pegleg,

Good point.

I was going to use 11 Amp ‘Thinwall’ cable and put a 3 Amp blade fuse in-line (Not sure if 3 AMP is the smallest blade fuse available).

From the headlight, the cable will be routed into the cabin (hopefully through the bonnet release cable grommet if I can) to an override switch (illuminated) on the side of the centre console and then back to the relay. The cable will be wrapped in tape and cable protection to be safe. The switch will be grounded locally.

Here’s Hoping for some reasonable dry weather this weekend so I can get it completed (I'll be lucky).

I’ve started to put some pics on my gallery.

All the best,

Chris

You could do that. But, if you get a sort circiut though the 3A fuse, there will be some current 'let through' due to the time characteristics of blade fuses. This would weaken the 15A main beam fuse upstream which could rupture without warning sometime in the future.
Wiring design engineers try not to put blade type fuses in parallel for this reason.
I've not checked, but are the main beam fuses in the passenger fusebox? This would save you some routing problems.

Best to use 2mm both sides of 85/86 and save yourself a fuse! Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I measure the rings of the guards, they are not real round. The size is about 13 and 15 centimeters.
I think about the Bosch Compact 100 (10 cm) and the KC Apollo 5" (12,5 cm).

All done.

The brackets I made can be used for most 6 - 7 inch lights.

I took a feed off the L/H headlight main beam to energise a relay coil (30 – 40 Amp relay) and the main power was picked up from the engine compartment fuse box (15 Amp In-line fuse used). The feed from the main beam is routed to the relay via an illuminated override switch mounted on the side of the centre console (easy to get to for fitting and operating and it’s not obstructed by the steering wheel as it would be on the dash).

I will post a full wiring and loom diagram when I get chance to formally draw it up (it’s in my head at the moment).

I’m looking to change the lights on the picture to some Hella’s (about the same size) when I get some spare cash.

Very beautiful!

Can you show us more pictures of the brackets you used/made and on what are they mounted, please?
I'm doubting what kind of lights I should install, I think about to install a extra pair of fog lights.

I've xenon and the xenon lights of the FL2 are bi-xenon + standard beam!
My previous car MINI had bi-xenon too, only the xenon bulbs glowed extra. At the FL2, when I turn beam on: the xenon bulbs glow extra and the beam light against the grill.

Sorry for my bad English! Rolling Eyes

Dommel,
I will try and find my drawings of the brackets and post them on here. Not sure where I put them. Made from 4mm Steel bar from the local DIY Super Store (B&Q in the UK).
In the meantime heres a photo of the brackets mounted on the bumper support beam.

They are mounted at the back of the beam. Once the horn assemblies are removed there is enough room to get a spanner in. The bumber support beam has to be removed.
More photos are on my gallery.

Eurolandy's method of installing seems to be the best solution I have come across so far. Do you have the dimensions for the brackets and were you able to find the diagrams and approximately how long did it take to complete the job. Any help would be appreciated. I hope to install Lightforce Strikers shortly and trust that it will prove to be money well spent.
