Gearbox Click

Hi

Have a F2 GS, TD4 manual, 08 reg, around 250 miles now.

I have noticed a click from the gearbox when decelerating through 10mph. It happens in all gears (inc neutral) and can be felt through the gear stick.

Its fairly obvious its the reverse gear lock-out disengaging. Above 10mph the gear lever will not travel across to where reverse gear is, below 10mph it will.

Question is should it make such an audible and noticable click?

Anyone else have experience of this.

Thanks

Harry

Not noticed any click on mine although I can feel a "slight tap" if I keep my hand on the gear stick. ______________________

Hi Guys, for info, I blagged a free go on a Landrover Experience before I took delivery of my FL2 and when driving I was advised by the off road tutor not to keep resting hand on gear stick as it causes wear in the gear box!
I am sure this info could give rise to all sorts of inn Thumbs Up uendos, but it is true! Freelander 2 - SE

as you say the click is the lock out for the reverse gear to stop accidental selection of reverse

I have never heard the click when this happens or felt it

I will turn the stereo off and see if that changes anything Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

The same goes for my TD4 XS.

Thanks for replys. I would agree it feels like a "slight tap" on the gearstick. However mine is accompanied by a very clear click which can be heard.

I am seeing a technician at my local dealer to asess on Friday, will let you know.

Harry,

my car is a Jan 07 with 34k miles on the clock, it has made this noise since day one and I would say it is quite noticable, however the noise has remained constant and doesn't concern me.

Hi

Ok, been to see technician. He agreed it is the solenoid "knocking back". Initially said they could order a new sender unit (at least thats what I think he called it - its the piece of kit directly under the gear stick, presumably contains said solenoid) but that he would like to try some other freelanders first.
Got a call to report he had tried 2 other F2's and they both do the same, so they don't intend to "fix" mine.
OK with me, at least I know what it is and its easy enough to live with although I remain convinced that its not supposed to make such a pronounced noise / click.

Just a wee thought, could it be the doors locking as you pull away, Doors lock at about 8 - 12mph, not sure if the gear lock does it at the same speed ? ______________________

since my previous post

I have listened and have not heard any click

Also I have free wheeled up a hill, to find at which point the lock disengages, but its hard to find as any pressure on the lock means it will not reopen at slow speeds until you move the gear lever Embarassed sad i know Embarassed Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I'm quite happy to live with the click on the basis that "at least I know the reverse lock out is working" Laughing
