Stalled and then wouldn't start

My wife drove the FL2 for the first time in months today, and when pulling off up hill in reverse I was just explaining the anti stalling device when she stalled Shocked

She pressed the start button but nothing happened. All the display lights remained on, and she pressed the button again but the engine didn't start. The car was in neutral, the clutch depressed (as was I) and foot on brake but still nothing happened when I pressed the button.

I took the key out, locked the doors, unlocked the doors, re-inserted the key and pressed the start button and the engine started as usual.

What is the correct starting procedure after a stall, and why didn't it re-start ? _________________

Does the handbrake need to be on?

Seems strange, I have always wondered what would happen if you turned the engine of when driving, ie; press the button, the LRE man didn't know either, so I tried it, a single press and nothing happened, a longer press and the engine died, it immediately restarted on pressing again.

This was an auto though but it was still in D, which theoretically should inhibit a start command?

Mine's a manual Taz but if I'm honest I can't remember if it was on or not after the stall. I tried a long press and a short one but the warning lights didn't go on or off. The only thing I could do was remove the fob. _________________

Just seen this in the book which I should have read before posting Embarassed

STALL RECOVERY
In the event that the engine stalls, it can be
restarted by fully depressing the clutch pedal.
Note: Automatic stall restart will only operate
once. If the engine is stalled a second time the
engine must be restarted normally.

So maybe pressing the button with the clutch depressed was turning off the car rather than starting it ? _________________

Stall recovery must be a recent addition - there's no mention as far as I can see in my manual, and I'm pretty sure mine needs a button press to re-start (although I don't stall it often enough to be certain Smile )

In my previous manual FL2 (MY10), it caught me out when I stalled. I immediately pushed the clutch in but pressed the start button as well rather than leaving it to do it's own thing. Embarassed

Hi Lee
Mine probably would have started just by removing and re-inserting the key, but I locked and unlocked it because that seems to be the cure all for just about everything with FL's.

hi

in a manual if you stall just put your foot on the clutch and it will restart, you don't have to touch anything else button gear stick or hand brake,

i must admit to the first time it happened to me i instantly went to turn the key Rolling with laughter (its the first car i have had with a slot thing) 1995 P38 now dead

This incident has taught me three important lessons

1. What to do if the car stalls.
2. Read the book before posting.
3. Don't let the wife drive the car.

How do you all manage to stall a car? I don't think I've ever done that. Laughing

Stalling the Manual Landrover is the same procedure as when the engine cuts out in Eco mode. Simply press the clutch and it'll restart the engine.
