I read tonight to use a LR or Toyota 4x4 built before 2004 as all parts are easily available in Africa.

My daughter-in-law's brother did it with his mate in ex-Environment Agency Defender 110 200Tdi with sand ladders, jerry cans. roo bar, rood tent and little else.

I've since learned about "Yellow Brick" that sends a regular GPS fix out and has a panic button to initiate local rescue. Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red
Gone... 2008 (09MY) XS Td4 Manual Stornaway Grey
Prior... 2003 G4 Discovery 2, 1998 Disco 1 and 1997 Disco 1 Company car before that
Also gone in Nov'13, after 7.5 yrs, to new owners with time for more TLC - 1980 Series III 88
Current 2015 Discovery Sport HSE 2.0

Good tyres! plus a couple of spares. Basic spares, new filters (air and fuel). Cash placed in different areas in the car (So no one sees you with a large amount) including Euro's and Dollars.


You could try contacting these guys...they do alot of adventures to Africa so would have some good tips Thumbs Up
