Quite simple really. Kraft took over Cadbury with a promise of no closures. After deal went through they closed the Keynsham factory, are looking to demolish the site and cover in housing. Local people lose jobs, sports fields, social club and in return get houses and more traffic.

Don't recall Kraft spending millions in a new plant before closing existing plants though. |

Kraft found conveniently that there was a Cadbury group plant in Europe that could produce the same products as Keynsham so it was a nobrainer for them. Promises mean nothing compared to money. |

OK, just to clarify a few points regarding Cadbury. They are a large customer of mine, and although the press write a pretty dismal report about the take over.

If it happens, you wont get a Chinese Landrover in the UK, or indeed anywhere in the Western World. They will be built there for their own market.

Good to hear not everyone suffers ![]() My cousin is in engineering - he has worked his way up from overalls on the shop floor to shirt and tie in the offices over the last 25 years - he has been made redundant so many times when factories were taken over/closed or moved abroad. He was in the oil industry but it went down the pan, then moved to aviation just before 911 and everyone cancelled orders ![]() Companies he has worked for have lost contracts to chinese/indian factories then won them back after fails due to sub standard components ![]() He has had to move around the country to find jobs each time but has now been headhunted for a job in France and passionate as he is about British engineering he realises it might be necessary for job security and to support his family but his ambition is to work for Rolls Royce ![]() Still hoping for a S2 one day! |

The number of transporters I see on the A34 heading for Southampton docks is unbelievable. They must be exporting a fair few. |

And we know what happened to London Taxis when Manganese Bronze started sourcing their steering parts in China |

Having dealt with JLR directly at the factories on a regular basis, you would be surprised to know that to a degree, there is some relief that this is happening.

There was an article in the Telegraph about Halewood, they quoted the plant making 230 Freeelanders and 460 Evoques per day with 4 out of every 5 Evoques coming off the line as LHD. They obviously need to increase capacity for the export market. 2020 Defender D200 110S Pangea Green
