Just wanting to check something out, the handbrake on our freelander 2 is going up about 6 clicks, is this to much, how do you adjust these handbrakes or are they self adjusting, not sure what the best thing to do is Regards

take rear wheel off, find a bung in the brake drum, poke screwdriver inside and move the adjuster round, it may however be seized or the shoes may be rusty and the lining fallen off  At work

thanks for the advice, i know it had new rear brake shoes, discs and pads at the tail end of last year before I bought it so hopefully might not be to bad, are the brake cables bad for going? could be them or just adjusting Regards

perfect, went and checked and it was just as you said, adjusted till it was around 3 or 4 clicks to full on, didnt take much, perfect, thanks for advice Regards

Ignore that bit of advice.

From the rear seats, look towards the back of the floor centre console that houses the handbrake. Most have a small storage area come coin tray for the rear seat passengers. It's held on by a couple of metal clips. Tug it quite hard towards you. It should come away with little problem. You will then see the handbrake adjuster right in front of you. Looking at it, you'll see exactly how to tighten it up. Easy peasy

it only adjusts the cable not the brake. not the proper way at all At work
