And will be the first visit to the cinema in
Years. I just find cinemas annoying these days.
Especially with the way people talk and eat
All the way through.
So, I prefer watching films at home on a big tv.
I have a basic surround sound system which
To be honest is a bit pants. The tv is in the
Corner of a rectangular room and the speaker
Placement is less than ideal. Especially as the
Wires are stuck under the carpet.
So, I was thinking about a Yamaha YSP-2200.
They seem to get good write ups.
However I wondered if anyone on here has tried
One. If so, what to you think of it?

We have a Bose sound system and we removed our Sony 5.1 surround sound.

The sound is great and gives huge depth. You don't get the echo sound of say a car or helicopter flying across the room ( if you know what i mean ) but some pals of mine have been well impressed and been and bought as well so cant be that bad !

Bose are good at what they do, I was actually listening to one yesterday at the Bose shop at York

But I will stand by my statement still, having proper 3 speakers in front of you, 2 next to you and 2 behind in a 7.1 configuration can not be beaten by a bar bouncing sound of a wall

It might, possibily be better than a cheap all in one 5.1 system you can buy for a couple of hundred quid at Currys but not my dedicated Onkyo Amp and Boston Accoustic speakers setup, I only have entry level in 5.1 at the moment, but my brothers pioneer system is 7.1 and blows the socks off mine, but then I haven't spent £500 just on a centre speaker an a grand on a amp like he has, but when he upgrades his other speakers from the current KEF ones I might buy them Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I can highly recommend the Yamaha soundbar, its 7:1 and fills any room with rich deep sound,i paid £699 for it last year it seems to have gone up a bit now but its worth every penny.

For £700 you could get a entry level onkyo set, richer sounds doe them, they start at around £400 I upgraded the receiver on mine but kept the same speakers as I wanted some more advanced features, but was more than happy with the quality of the speakers, can't recommend a deditacted receiver enough, gives much more control and means only one connection to the tv.

Thanks fopr the responses all.
As far as surround sound goes, I accept that a dedicated set up with separate speakers etc will give a better sound
than a sound bar and I know that for £700 I could get a reasonable separates system.
However, the whole point is that
1) With the layout of my room and where we sit, it's hard to place the speakers.
2) I can't be dealing with lifting the carpet again.

Ideally I'd like to demo one of these things to see if it's better than what I've got.

i know what you mean about running wires, same room layout, but with laminate oak flooring, so i opted for TV stand with centre speaker, 2 floor stand left and right, then the hard work came running the cable for the surround sound speakers, one runs along a skirting board, the other, due to the fact i could get past the fire place, goes outside, in tubing (speaker cable is not water proof and degrades) and up the wall to were its located

Just one last thing, have a look at D-Line trunking, Can be fitted to the top of skirting board and glossed over and disappears and blends in completely once done

Anyway, it sounds like a few have them, so they'll be able to offer better advice, but hearing a demo in a shop can be nothing like it will sound at home, so thats the place the demo should be, so look at sale or return if possible

I simply went into the cellar and ran the wires along the cellar ceiling, doing it again soon to supply internet connection to the sky tv, but I fear my broadband is too slow to download movies sensibly  At work

I know i could,truth of it is the sounbar replaced my lovely old Denon reciever and Wharfdales ( in loft well wrapped they're going nowhere ) but we got a new huge tv and went the minimalist look which works very well for us,i'm well aware of the sound i have lost but had to take one for the team as she who must be obeyed wanted it this way

Could try a Sherman Audio 6K stack, would certainly liven the viewing up but might pi55 of the neighbours slightly  ______________________
