Battery Charging Question

Hi, sorry this is so simple, maybe it has been asked before. I use a smart-charger for my classic car, a pair of leads being attached to the battery lug auxiliary posts and left there----to use the car there is a rubber plug, then the plug and lead is just tucked under the bonnet. I want to use this system on my Freelander as there are spells when I don't use it but the handbook states that the battery must be removed for charging otherwise the electrics could be damaged. Any advice here please, does anyone use a smart charger? Thanks.[/b]

I don't know if this would be suitable for Freelander electrics but my son is out of the country for long periods and I
have connected a solar charger to the battery in his Citroen C2 which keeps the battery topped up. It has a built- in
device which prevents any overcharging. It would not recharge a flat battery. Bought from Maplins, from memory about £20. No adverse effects apparent. Perhaps others may be able to enlighten further.

A smart charger will not (in theory) damage the electrics. I think the handbook is aimed mainly at standard chargers, not smart chargers.

I have a smart charger on my bike and it has yet to damage the electrics

And my boss uses one on his new Mclaren, with incident Mr. Green Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

Never hurt my FL2, and used to keep the battery topped up frequently over the winter.

I use a CTEK smart charger and have had no problems, I also use the perminant fitted plug.

Me too! CTEK Smart charger via a permanent plug - absolutely no problems.

And another, but I'm using my CTEK charger + the cigarette adaptor and charging through the permanently live socket in the FL2's boot Thumbs Up

Good to know you can charge the battery while its in the car,i just got a Ring smart charger think will give the batterry a boost before winter.
