Crisis of confidence in my Freelander 2 Sport LE

My 2010 FL2 is going in for a new clutch etc this Monday, it's been playing up since 22,000 miles. It's getting replaced through the warranty (hopefully)

I need a reliable car, does anyone have a high mileage FL2?

I was planning on keeping the car for as long as possible but I am concerned that if the clutch has gone already, how reliable will the car be? I know it's omething that cannot be answered but re there any high milers out there?

Should I get rid?

Every modern car I've owned with a DMF has people on the forums moaning (that is not meant to sound like a criticism of you, your question or your problems) about the DMF and clutch. You'll get a poor PX, if you buy another diesel it will also be at risk of failure. Not every FL2 fails.

My Nissan Navara had its 3rd clutch fitted at 12.5k miles!!!! Dealer said they failed each time because of the DMF, third time they fitted a different design of DMF (Nissan bought out a mod for them).

I had an auto which had 106K miles on when I swapped for a Discovery without any problem, I know that an auto is a different animal but it goes to prove that they are no worse than anything else and better that a lot of others when it comes to reliability. Gone, 2007 TD4 SE Auto Baltic blue, clear side repeaters, full sized alloy spare.

English by birth..... Yorkshire by the grace of God.

Her ladyship's MY2010 FL2 Maunal had done so far inexcess of 47k kms., that's approximately 29,500mls with no clutch failure so far. It has a tough daily job climbing these mountains in all sorts of weather in all seasons - and - we have a winter blanketed in black ice and deep snow that usually lasts from November to April.

Other folks on here in the UK have reported even higher milages without DMF or clutch failures. On the other hand some like you Boof have had failures earlier in the life of their vehicles.

Draw your own conclusions regarding that data.

My first Freelander 2 (07) manual did 35000 miles before i sold it with no clutch issues. My second Freelander 2(60 MY11) manual has done just under 20000 miles and (touch wood) is still running fine.

Mine did 50002 before the clutch needed doing, that was warranty too, and now at 65003 I can just hear the rear diff starting to whine on overrun, I'll leave that for the next owner to sort out.

I felt like that for sometime after mine went. I was really annoyed at first. I’m over it now but it did become a confidence issue.

If you do the research there are a small number of failures with 2009/2010 stop start models. There are no reported double failures so once repaired you can look forward to many years trouble free.

I was going to keep mine long term until earlier this week when an offer on a new XS manual was temptingly put in front of me. That’s another story and if it all falls through I will be keeping mine Thumbs Up A Land Rover owner since 1988

From a 1974 series III to a 12MY XS FL2 with help of a 1995 D1, 1996 D1, 2005 D3, 2007 D3 and a 2009 FL2.

My 07 is just coming up to 87000 some nigles that were sorted out under wvarrenty, as well as the rear diff, that was around £300 to sort the pinion bearing.

Did suffer from some slip after reversing up a steep bank, but drove through it and it dispersed after a couple days, cars asstrong as ever with no vibration on acceleration

Will be keeping it for a good while yet Thumbs Up

I had a clutch issue with my FL1 and although I was considering a MY11 FL2 manual, I opted for the SD4 auto in the end. If nothing else, it removes the worry of clutch/DMF failure. If you like the FL2, why not look for an auto with a spec that suits your requirements.

Scotland 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Sumatra Black

2007 car, 78000 miles, original clutch. Used daily for commutes around the Highlands, about 1100 miles per month, including through all the vagaries of a Highland winter and a wee bit of boat towing into the bargain.

Just to add that mine has now passed 46,000 miles in 14 months and it had one tiny problem with the heater, at around 5 days old, that took 20 minutes to fix. Other than that, it's been completely reliable and I see no reason why it shouldn't carry on that way for the next 22 months.

I bought my car at 92000 km. in december last year. I have done about 9 months in it and I am at 112000 km. i.e.. about 30000 km this year and I've had only one fault - the glow plugs, which I replaced before the car reached 100000 km.
So far, so good. No major problems (one lightbulb had to be changed in the high brake light, and the DPF full message came on two weeks ago) and I feel pretty confident about it.

Of course it's an auto, so I don't have the clutch problems that exist with the manual box .

2007 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Zermatt Silver

The Fun Prevention Officer has a Nov 2010 F2 with stop/start and this is currently on just over 40k miles and (seemingly) no issues with the clutch...

Note for Mona Geeza... the rear diff bearing has a TSB so if you raise the issue with your dealer, they will do this without any query!
