United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Sumatra Black
Why so different?

Whilst my LR was in for service had use of an XS SD auto
did about 100 miles but amazed at how different the ride was
other than auto & SD the 'only' difference was 19 inch wheels instead of 18's and instead Pirelli Scorpions loan car had Continentals -Cross Contacts

Both Freelanders XS MY2011

The ride was far smoother far less 'pitch & roll'

Would 19 inch wheels make such a difference? 2011 XS,Sumatra Black, GONE MARCH 2014- RR Evoque Prestige 5 door ,MY 2014,Loire Blue, Silver Roof, Panoramic roof.

England

Yes, if I put the 17" winters on its like driving a boat for a while, much prefer the firmer, less body roll of the 19".

England 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Santorini Black

Can't answer your question regarding the SD4, but I had mine 'TD4e HSE MY10' in for a couple of days last week with the loan of a 61 plate TD4 GS auto.
I always said I would not buy an auto Fl2 for economy reasons and after my experience with the auto box on an off road day over 2 years ago.
The newer 150 engine is far smoother than mine, the gearbox was bang on changing up and down, as well as being quite a bit faster off the mark, economy was on par with my TD4 e and the sound proofing seemed to be better on the newer model.
The GS I had as a loaner was fitted with 235-65-17 Wrangler HP tyres and even with 17" rims the ride around bends was firmer and the suspension over bumps appeared stiffer "quieter" than my current model, although there was more road noise at motorway speeds from the Wranglers compared to my Scorpions.
If I like the face-lift "happy with the exterior, it's the dash I don't like" when it's announced, I'll be giving the SD4 serious consideration.

I purchased a 2012 FR2 XS SD4 in April this year after running a FR2 sx TD4 for 3 years the the new SD4 is far smoother and economy seems better and may improve after its got a few 1000 on it hope so anyway, its only got 17" continental contact tyres on.

United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Stornoway Grey

I can't wait to collect my 60 plate SD4 that I bought last Saturday Very Happy Just waiting for the mandatory health checks, valet and reg transfer.

I love the interior on the XS. The facelift interior has much better instrument dials and the part leather heated seats are great and I have the armrest pack as well.

Didn't have chance on the test drive to give the SD4 the beans but I will (legally) have a play with the extra power once I have it. Thumbs Up 60 plate SD4 XS, Stornoway Grey, Arm rest pack

How does it feel over bumps and potholes on the lower profile tyres? I also suspect that if one was partial to go off roading, 17's would be better because 19's would be susceptible to damage. Horses for courses then. 60 plate SD4 XS, Stornoway Grey, Arm rest pack

Depends what 'so much better' means to you. If you're the boy racer type it does go round corners a bit better. OTOH if, like me, you live in an area of rough roads you'll be thankful for 17"s Whistle Brian

MY11 FL2 SD4 GS
Extras to same spec as XS apart from the Satnav, plus Xenons.

I recently swapped from 17s to 16s and there's so much more body roll now. Swapping back once I've changed off the winter set on 17s. 2008 FL2 TD4 XS Zermatt Silver, Manual
