No AM in Alpine system

Sad I'm another of what I read is many who have lost the AM on their 2008 HSE. My dealer quoted me $1700ASD to fix it! This is the same dealer who charged me $285ASD just for the engine oil at my last service.
Has anyone found a cheaper way to replace the AM Module, or a good replacement system?
First Post, thanks for being here!

I would get a cost of a complete new radio if it was me.
Get a quote from another LR dealer quoting your VIN number as well.

Failing that, get a quote from Dan @ Duckworths (site sponsor) in the UK, again, quoting your VIN and don't forget it'll be Tax (UK VAT) free, but anything over $1000 posted to you incurs import duty.

Such a bad batch of radios that year. Mine went, just inside warranty thankfully, but I hear about this all the time for 2008 models.

Good luck with it anyway!

Maybe you could get it for free, as it is a known problem, covered by a Special Service Message.

I had a tech from Alpine who offered to look into the AM problem. He contacted LR in UK and they said that SSB42186 refers to a radio manufactured by Mitsubishi.
Did he possibly get it wrong or have you heard this?
Todd

The SSM doen't specify the radio's manufacturer.
I've had the same AM problem on the Alpine branded radio and they changed the IAM and all is OK now.
