Sounds like a New Delhi call centre  Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Don't worry, it's the turbo. And sounds quite normal.
You didn't notice until now because when you have all windows closed you won't hear it.

If its the turbo, then that's was replaced a short time ago

I heard the noise with my windows shut as te aircon is better with them shut,

Farnells have said its a gas escape, could see soot, but unable to tell were from, will investigate further when in for service and mot,

It's the turbo sound, not that you have a problem with the turbo...
The noise as it hears corresponds with the sound of a turbo, as Ian said.
If it wasn't heard up until now, then it could be a small leak.
But all in all, the sound is similar to the sound of a healty turbo.
