I have tried to resist asking but need to know, what is all the 'MY' stuff about?

I use different motoring forums:
Harley Davidson
Yamaha Super Tenere
Landy Zone...
and never seen 'MY' being used so thought is was summit specific to FL2's... Whistle

It's a way of ensuring you use the correct parts as many bits change over the life span of a particular model of car. garioch43

It's Model Year.

It's used throughout the motor industry by many manufacturers. In house, it's often split into 1/2's or even 1/4's such as 2013 1/2 MY but is rarely rolled out beyond the factory gates.

That way, it's easy to distingush between current model and a quarter or half year facelift during build phases. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

You could have the situation where a 2012MY was built in 2011 or even earlier depending when the maufacturer last had a model year change.
93MY Disco for example was built up to 1995. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.
