fl2's in london

Just back from a trip to London, Saw loads of RRS's and FFRR's but not a single FL2 .. weird Wink Good to see they are still fairly rare. On Oxford st. every tenth car seemed to be a RRS many of them loaded with extras, Khan wheels and body kits etc.

Saw a £30,000 marble bath in Harrods too, but we have recently done up our bathroom so it wouldn't fit our decor phew Laughing

I did buy an eternity ring for Mrs George though, so looks like I'll be on an economy drive for a while now! And ebaying everything that isn't nailed down Sad

Yes Chicken George is right- I too got physically dragged into Harrods the other weekend, mind you the 103" plasma tv costing about 27k looked tasty.
Anyway I too noticed the lack of FL2's around Knightsbridge. Plenty of Range Rover Vogues and Sports and quite a few Porsche Cayennes and believe it or not a defender, but no freelanders.
Silly thing was the defender was a 1984/5 110 County, so that must have been the original MPV!! Bet Red Ken loves that one paying congestion charge!

Isn't there something about defenders and earlier landies not paying the congestion charge due to having so many seats?

Quite possibly.
If so this owner must have his head screwed on. Good for him if he can get one over on Ken!

found this...

2. Drive a 'Minibus'

Minibuses registered with Transport for London (TfL) don't pay the charge, either. Anything between nine and 17 seats (including the driver's seat) is a minibus or can be registered as such or as a public service vehicle. This could include a nine-seater, 110in-wheelbase Land Rover Defender, so you don't have to drive anything as un-cool as a Transit crew bus to save your £8. You must be 21 to drive a minibus, but as long as you acquired your licence before January 1997 – and you are not driving it for "hire or reward" – you don't need a special licence.

Dont tell all the countryfolk about this. They will be selling their old Landies to Londoners so that they can use them on the school runs.
How cool would that be- a line of old defenders parked outside of some posh school at chucking out time. Bring it on!!

Quote:
n an exclusive investigation, has discovered that a large number of expensive luxury cars are being registered as private hire vehicles in London. Amongst the list of cars you are not likely to see parked under the flashing yellow light of a minicab office are:

Model Number Registered as private hire vehicles
Aston Martin DB7 1
Bentley (all models) 31
BMW M5 1
BMW X5 18
Cadillac Escalade 1
Jaguar XK 1
Range Rover 52
Maserati Quattroporte 2
Maybach 62 3
Rolls Royce Phantom 8

By paying an £82 application fee and £27 per year licence, owners can avoid paying £8 per day Congestion Charge – which is planned to rise to £25 per day for such vehicles in 2008.

I was in London on Wednesday and Thursday (Holborn), and yes, unbelievable: no single Freelander 2 Crying or Very sad , but lots of RRS.
So I could not ask any FL driver to take me with them, and had to spend 4 pounds on the metro. Comfort is slightly less than in a Freelander, and I missed HDC on the escalators. Rolling with laughter

As a regular commuter into London, and also a bus user rather than the tube, I have lots of opportunities to spot cars. Since launch, I've only seen about a dozen FL2s!

The previous posts though are very true about RRS - usually black with privacy glass. Almost as common as an X5.

Oops, thats £1 in the swear box please boiledgnat.
I HATE X5's (and X3's come to that)
Give us our Landies any day!
If there are that many X5's in London then Ken ought to double the congestion charge just on them- to go with their owners inflated egos.
