Ooo. That's a bit long. I was hoping you'd say six months or so.

I agree. It should be, but never was.

Thanks for this fantastic post, you've gone to significant trouble to share great detail on the problem and the solution. I find it unforgiveable that designers of this system and those producing it could allow weld spatter to remain on components working in a hydaulic system with a 15 micron filter system in it. This should have been a free recall job given the potential for damage to this somewhat importasnt system! |

You are welcome. I just hate to see fellow FL2 owners without a warranty shelling out significant amounts of money for something that some of us have managed to solve at a relatively modest cost. It is just a great shame that Land Rover have not issued recall for safety critical steering. If a serious incident occurs they will be slaughtered in court with all the evidence on this site. - 2007(57) XS Auto, Rimini Red, Alpaca Leather.

The problem was raised by the mechanic at the garage I used this time for service and MOT. I realised that there had been a progressive stiffening at low speed. I went straight on the net and found your post. I sent it to him, he made some trade enquiries and has given me a price of £83 all in for doing it - I'm not up to doing it myself any more but I've no doubt the relatively low cost - an hours labour and parts - was influenced by your info.

I changed the fluide and the filter. No luck! Had to get the pump changed. That fixed everything! Nothing covered by LR!! FL2, TD4 HSE

Thanks for the comment. I had the fluid changed but despite asking that they also change the reservior / filter they didn't - so just paid for fluid and no labour because it didn't work. Then went elsewhere and had the pump changed - no difference!! So finally had to change the rack; this worked. Whole job cost me over £900. |

I am sorry it did not work for you and that you have incurred significant cost. This further reinforces the case for a LR recall. - 2007(57) XS Auto, Rimini Red, Alpaca Leather.

My steering doesn't feel to have anything wrong with it, certainly no heaviness or pulling in any direction however I have noticed a slight high pitched whine when maneuvering in car parks etc at full lock in both directions. It only happens when the wheel is right on the full lock stop point, even half an inch back away from full lock and the noise is gone.

THat sounds normal to me - not necessarily in terms of FR2, but in terms of PAS systems in general. |

It's normal, at the end of travel the pressure relief comes into play. It's a very quiet noise but noticeable, and like you said it disappears as soon as you come off full lock. |
