service indicator

Although it's not due for maybe 5K miles or in November, my service indicator has come up. At first it said "inspect or service" in the small trip meter screeen, but now there is a small clock face and every morning it reads 24....23....22...etc.
It was not serviced at a LR dealer, but where I purchased it from, and I'm assuming they didn't reset the service indicator. Is there a way of doing this?.....if I ignore it will anything nasty happen?, like the horror stories you read about BMW's when the whole dash info readout refuses to work?....HELP!

Stealer didn't reset my service indicator correctly after last service! It started 30 day countdown after three months and then carried on with a minus count for nearly eight months. After that it has now reverted to just showing odometer reading on start-up with no other effects noticed. Wonder what will happen next month, after service!

....thanks pressureman...

I tried to reset the service indicator using the instructions here...I got a message saying "Cannot Reset" - I had some rewiring work done just after I got the car, as the info display would not close down when the engine was switched off, consequently the battery was always flat. This may have something to do with it. I heard...(years ago actually...) that on some BMW's....if you didn't take any notice of the service indicator - ALL the dash lights came on and STAYED ON until your BMW dealer serviced the vehicle. I obviously wanted to avoid a horror story like this - your message has put my mind at rest - in fact I spoke today with the dealer (NOT a LR dealer...) who I bought the car from and he echoed your words. I'll leave it til I get it serviced in November. We'll see what happens. Many yhtanks, Pressureman......rallykeith.

But when you have a service by LR's top dealer you do expect it done to LR standards and not have to reset the service indicator yourself, if they cannot get that bit right you tend to worry when you press the brake pedal.
