Squeek N/S rear wheel on reversing ?Handbrake need freeing?

As title, having replaced all pads a few weeks ago I'm getting a loud squeek only on reversing from the N/S rear not going forward. So I'm thinking the Hand brake mechanism is a bit seized & needs freeing.

Can anyone point me in the direction of some pics of it, or what is likely to be causing it please.

TBH I very rarely use the hand-brake when parking at home as the drive is level and the auto gearbox locks it fine anyway & I thought it would cause less problems with the Hand brake mech Big Cry Doh!

Did you replace the hand brake shoes as well ? did the loud squeek start soon after using the hand brake?
If you have not touched the hand brake shoes or tried to adjust them then its fare to say it could be that you have not fitted the anti squeel shims correctly.
Whip the rear wheels off again on by one, check the shims are still in place. If these are all ok the you will need to remove each calaper. you will have to slacken off the hand brake shoes via the small hole used to ajust the hand brake, this will allow removal of the disc so you can check the hand brake linings and clean and lubricate as needed, if shoes are ok the clean shoes and drum lining and slightly roughen the shoes before reasembling.
You will have to re adjust both hand brake shoes. If you have any problems then give me a shout and I can dig out the photos I took when I replaced all my linnings and reajusted the hand brake Thumbs Up

I didn't replace the hand brake shoes.
It didn't start straight after changing the pads.
It also only squeeks the first couple of times the car reverses when the hand brake has been released, then stops, if that makes sense. It is also only on the one side.

I will have to get the spanners out again.

Thanks ssparks Thumbs Up

I had a similar problem although mine also squeaked during long journeys when the brakes got hot. Ended up replacing both rear discs, pads and shoes. Cured the problem. Mechanic said it was due to a seized mechanism/corrosion in the drum. Can't help you with instructions as I had mine done under the warranty.

pull plug out, adjuster is right there either at 9 o clock or 3 o clock , opposite side to the cable. Just use a flat bladed screw driver to rotate the toothed wheel, threads are vertical so your moving the toothed wheel across horizontal.

The threads are known to seize up Confused

go to the handbrake pic at http://lrparts.net.ru/ not very helpful but it shows the adjuster part 2041, (it is not where the red arrow point to) At work

Had a similar situation many years ago on an old car - needed to drop the lower support arm so I could remove the drive shaft.

There was me gently tapping the arm - mate of mine with much better knowledge came round and knocked it into next week - it just dropped like a charm.

Well I finally got chance to have another go at the disk removal, and finally got it off. Was fairly obvious what was causing the squeek;

A few more pics in my gallery.

So I definitely need to replace the rear disks and shoes for the hand brake...doh.
I have ordered disks/shoes & the expanders as Guy Salmon say they often break on removal & for less than I can get them locally, even including carriage.

Anyone done a step by step replacement guide for the shoes? or are there any tips/tricks worth noting?

When looking for a jack make sure you get one with a relatively high lift, as the ones for general cars jut don't go quite high enough (about an inch short).

As I already have two that I used when building my Westfield a few years ago I end up putting them on 2x 1/2inch sheets of plywood so as to be able to lift high enough to get the wheels off Whistle
