Sounds normal to me. Good old turbo lag. Doesn't happen so much if you build the revs a little higher before changing up. I think the lag is great when I am joining the very small A38 slip road near me. I went around the corner in 3rd at about 25mph and put my foot down. The bloke in the focus zetec was thinking he would get past me the moment we were on the A38 but as soon as the turbo kicked in I was gone. Just as an added tip, pull away from standing with the TR in sand mode. Brilliant for quicker getaways. I think it changes the throttle response and also puts the power down quicker. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

^ beat me to it.... get an auto and it keeps it on boost so no lag!

The auto doesn't have this because you don't have to lift off the throttle to change gear. The lag is no big deal anyway.

Or push lever left, select most appropriate gear and floor it, making better faster progress with no lag or delay and without having to move your left leg ![]() ![]() |

Came the time I bought my FL2, when I picked it up the Sales guy was keen to demonstrate to me all the features that he could in an hour ... ... he said if you ever feel the need to get a new set of tyres use 'sand' mode at traffic lights for a week or so! ![]() Freelander 2 TD4 SE Auto MY08 - Santorini black |

If you buy an auto leave it in D unless off roading useage requires the manual mode. Using commandshift on the road is as good as admitting you should have bought a proper manual. I fully accept the auto has no lag but I am not bothered. The lag is quite amusing sometimes as per my above post and the gear change itself is fine and dandy. I like the involvement. buy an auto because 99% of the time I will leave it in D and it suits the car much better. Use the command shift when I need it and so I still have some control..

Couldn't disgree more. Manual suits the FL2 as its not massive like a disco. Perfect box. I love driving it and the short throw is great. As above, wise choice lad. |
