Chipping for under £100 for increased mpg ??

Hi all, ive been having a good read up. Nice to see you all havent lost ur sense of humour.

Has anybody chipped an Fl2 yet ? Ive added a link below to fleabay for a chip, £70 ! Should be good (german) claims a 20% reduction in fuel ? Can this be true ?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...K:MEWAX:IT

I dont know if i have broke any rules by the above, if so im sorry nick - i give you full permission to send me a cymber slap.

Just looks a dam good idea - IF IT WORKS !!

Whats ya views guys, or should I be the first ? Very Happy 2008 Td4 Freelander2 GS - santorini black.

Of course, I would like their claims to be true!

However, I have a serious problem believing that a Micky Mouse company from eBay can "improve torque and power by 40% and reduce consumption by 20%", all for a cost of £70, while the entire might of the development teams from Ford and PSA Group could completely fail to achieve the same!

I like some of their other claims too:

"No loss of warranty from the car seller". I'm glad that they feel able to speak on behalf of every manufacturer and dealer out there!

"No risk of breakage of the mechanical parts of your car". In the unlikely event of it producing an increase in power and torque of 40% I'm "totally convinced" that that wouldn't increase the risk of holed piston, a knackered gearbox or a whole host of associated drivetrain problems Rolling Eyes

Personally, I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole! Wink File under "Snake Oil"!

Ummm. I shared similar beef, however there feedback (ok not LR's I know) so show that people are seeing improvements and are happy !

If there claims are true (speaking from myself) my freelander could be near on 200bhp getting 40mpg ?

I think its down to higher torque lower end, without the revs. 2008 Td4 Freelander2 GS - santorini black.

Would you really trust a £70 eBay chip that really just fools the car and most likely never been tested or pay £4-500 for a remap that actually alters the way in which the ecu behaves to achieve the torque and possible mpg claims and fully tested on actual cars on road and rolling roads

People own a £20k + car with a £2k engine and risk a few pounds saving on a resistor in a box from eBay

i have fitted a PRO-BITZ chip box on my company mondeo, this seemed to be one of the better of the cheap (£100) chip boxes.
you remove the common rail sensor plug and put the box in-line, they claim huge benifits in torque and power and also reduced fuel consumption.

well i have been running this for around 6 months now and can tell you

it gives a massive increase in power proven by a run on courtney sports dyno standard 140bhp with the box in line 172bhp
it goes like sh Censored of the proverbial shovel

also the trip computer tells me im averageing 46mpg !!!!! this is where it all falls down, as its a company car i record every litre and my mileage on a monthly basis as i pay for private milage instead of paying fuel tax.

the reality is 26 mpg !!!

i have had no issues with the car since its been fitted and as i said earlier it goes like the wind when you want it to but that does come at a price .
conclusion power yes fuel economy no chance Thumbs Up TO DARE IS TO DO

My opinion,
I would not FIT any type of tuning unit, the principle of these boxes is to tell the ECU lies. By far the best way is to have car mapped.
I examine hundreds of high performance rally and race cars as a MSA scrutineer, NO one fits boxes, they all map cars to suit.

Most garages offering remap charge around £150-£200 and will remap free if dealer reboots ecu during repair or service. All FL2's (3) Gone

Must agree with Npinks on this one,

The fact is if LR or any other car maker could get 20% more fuel 40% power etc, for £100.00 box of tricks do you not think there would do it, They spend ten's of thousands of pounds and thousand of hour test driving the car to make you engine run right. For a £100 box of trick to do better Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

I fully under stand in how the box of tricks works, and LR don't fit it because of that, (There what and need the car to work all over the world) Thumbs Up

I doubt they would mention those that are unhappy? which might be more than those that are happy, and maybe they only sold one and thats to the bloke thats trying to sell them, maybe? so he happy he might see an improvement in his bank account? I doubt you get anything any good cheap theses days unless its nicked.

Hi guys
Relatively new here BUT.. pls bear in mind that the flywheel in your vehicle was designed along the likely power output from the engine as it left the factory.

Theres a more than a few instances of the increased power shagging something in the drivetrain and the dual mass flywheel is one of the more common failure items
Doesn't happen to everyone but worth nearing in mind
