Compare Freelander and Fiesta mechanisms on opening up. – 75 viewsThe Freelander mechanism from my 56 plate HSE is seized solid and on the left. The Fiesta mechanism from an 03 plate car is in perfect condition. Why didn\'t Landrover specify the same seals as Ford did?

Rusted solid pinion mechanism  – 70 viewsThe original pinion had rusted solid. With a good dose of WD40 I was able to spring open the "eye glass" retaining clips and remove the original drive shaft. I cleaned this up with a wire brush and greased it liberally. Then I remover the drive shaft from the Fiesta assembly and mated the old drive shaft to the rust free Ford components.

69 viewsComparing the Ford and Freelander armatures. The Freelander one is at the bottom so after cleaning the commutator (copper bit!) with fine emery paper I was able to reuse the original motor.
