Bulb replacement on 11MY

Looking to change the headlight bulbs. Noticed in the manual these are 2 H11's and 2 H7's. I take it the sizes have changed on the SD4 as the older model were 4 H7's if i'm not mistaken?

Anyone recommend any decent bulds to replace the standard fit? I do a fair bit of night driving.

Thumbs Up MY11 Freelander 2 Sport LE Fuji White

Osram night breakers I believe are pretty good, although I have gone for xenons as the new projector style lights kill the light from a filament lamp.
If you can upgrade the whole thing, especially with lots of night driving.

Yes 11my has 2xH11 and 2xH7 in headlamps, Nice to note that LR acted on my email in DEC 2010 telling them of mistake in handbook which said 4xH11.
I already had H7 + 90% so only had H11 to buy.

Halfords have buy one get one free, the offer is often on but not displayed you have to ask!!!
As Halfords do not make bulbs they will likely be Osram or Phillips. All FL2's (3) Gone

PowerBulbs on eBay, rather than their own site, are very cheap for the Osram and Philips bulbs.

Thanks very much. Found their store on eBay and seem very cheap. Any idea which of the Osram/Phillips offer the best light? MY11 Freelander 2 Sport LE Fuji White

Don't know, I've not compared back-to-back and like-with-like.

Not on something with modern headlamps, though they made a big difference on my Defender and Alfa 75 (both have H4 bulbs).

I have replaced both the dip and main beam bulbs with Osram Night Breaker Plus and the difference is like Night and Day (Excuse the pun) Much better performance than the stock bulbs in my opinion.

How badly will the projector kill the light? Is it worth changing the bulbs in this case? MY11 Freelander 2 Sport LE Fuji White

New lamps will make a difference certainly.

Anything you put in front of a lamp (bulbs go in ground Rolling Eyes ) will affect the light output, projector style lights have two effects, the glass is very thick, therefore attenuates a lot of light, it is not high quality glass. Secondly, the lens need a pin point source of light to be effective, HID lamps have a very small point of light, the Nightbreaker and other 100% lamps, have a shorter filament which burns brighter, hence the extra light from the same wattage and also a smaller point source so the projector lens spreads the light better.

My previous car had HID xenons, they were fantastic, my latest car has projector style lights with standard halogen, comparatively they are rubbish, although upgrading helped, I got the Halfords 2 for 1 offer.

Next car will be HID xenon again, once you have driven with them the difference is unbelievable, I also disagree that they are blinding, the ones that blind are the chavs and pikeys with aftermarket HID kits in Nova's and saxo's without self levelling.

I would seriously look at sourcing the HID xenon lights, The regs state they need to be self leveling and have washers fitted, the levelling is built into the light housing, the washers you probably already have.

hope this helps a little.

Paul

I have used Osram Night Breaker plus' in my FL2 and previous car with no problems. The plus ones last longer, supposedly. They do make a noticeable difference in my experience. Cool Poke it, Poke it, make it do it again!!
