Web browsers

As I am almost one week into glorious Macbook pro ownership and just downloaded Firefox 6 update, I thought I would get some opinions on browsers.

I have been using Firefox since version 3 and its now on number 6. I am on 30mb fibre optic broadband with virgin and I must say Firefox has been flawless.

I have heard good reviews of Google chrome though.... LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I use what ever works. I find alot of sites that require a login for work won't work on chrome. And then safari on the I phone which also won't work on many sites too. So basically they are all crap!

I gave up with Firefox 3 versions ago, they have now decided that every new minor update is a new version Confused Do they think we are gullible enough to believe Firefox has advanced that far in a matter of months to be eligible for the jump from v3 to v6. Besides the hundreds of addons weighs it down like a ton. Not as good as it use to be.

Google is an excellent basic browser but is now jumping on the addon bandwagon, it is faster than FF though.

I now use IE9, it's a giant leap from v7/8 with better protection and a speed on par with the others. It still heavily relies on Java which makes its security a bit iffy but the forthcoming IE10 will sort that. Also IE9 has the best compatibility with sites.

Liking FF, couldn't get on with Chrome at all.

Don't like add ons though, they get disabled, bit like a caravan, just slows things down with only an occasional benefit Rolling with laughter Sorry EY, I need a laugh today Laughing

Opera as my first choice, followed by Explorer (out of necessity) while I'm at work.

Doctor,

30mb fibre optic - I am green with envy! I only manage.5 , yes that's half mb, as we are so far from the exchange and the fibre optic cable ran up to the village but didn't stop and just carried on to the next town. Anybody know how to tap into a fibre optic cable? Whistle

Browser immaterial at that speed, I think. I stand to be corrected. - 2007(57) XS Auto, Rimini Red, Alpaca Leather.

Perhaps this should have been titled - 'Which Browser Do You Use Most' or 'Which is Your Favourite Browser'.

From the answers above, it seems many people use more than one for various reasons.

I use FF 80-90% of the time. Opera on my Android mobile. IE when FF doesn't work (eg banking software) and occasionally Chrome, just to see what they're up to!

We've only got 20mB fibre optic to our village up in these mountains - if we paid (as a village collective) SwissCom would install a 50mB net from the valley below.

Fat chance of that as not all folks will be staying in this village including us (no shop, no post, no church [not important for an atheist like me] no pub and poor bus connection) and, I'm sure by the time SwissCom even got round to doing it some new technology will have leapfrogged that idea.

Apple's Safari works well though on our current old, soon to be replaced iBook, and then we'll get the benefit of the OSX Lion's Safari improvement. Her Ladyship has no complaints re Safari on her iPhone4.
