My 2011 SD4 HSE is now six months old and covered 10K.

I have noticed today that the drivers seat belt is - 'frayed' is not the correct word at this stage - 'distressed' may be more suitable word to use at the moment.

The bit of the seat belt concerned is a 9 inch section on the outside edge where the belt passes over your right shoulder.

I suspect that this is being caused by the shaped hole in the pillar where the belt retracts into.

I remember there being something on this site some time ago and that LR had modified and corrected this fault.

Has any one else with new model Freelanders noticed this problem with their vehicles?

I just want to have this info/ammo for when I visit the dealers; not that I am expecting any probs with them.

However if this fault is still reacurring in new Freelanders LR need to know and do something about it pronto.

Mines a week off 5 months old and I just went out to inspect mine, in as new condition as the day I got it with no wear at all.

I have taken a photo of the seat belt - sorry it is on my gallery as I do not know how to put photo on posting.

The area that is damaged appears to be the section that just emerges from the hole in the pillar when sat in the drivers seat.

Whilst driving this section of the belt moves in and out and rubs on the panel opening.

I am not particularly tall or short - 5'-10" but shrinking with age......

Seat set at...well 'normal' hight and slightly bent arm distance from stearing wheel.

I have looked at the article on the forum from last time and the photo on there of the altered slot appears to show a black coloured insert in the hole.

Mine does not have this and the hole with the lip is just part of the overal moulding.

Not sure how I spotted it come to think of it as this bit of the belt is over your shoulder and behind you. Not something that is staring you in the face and that noticable.

Clearly LR haven't got this sorted.

This is the design on my MY11 and no fraying at all ........ yet

The pillar opening is the same as mine.

I suppose it all comes down to use at the end of the day.

Maybe the wear on mine is a little premature but it something that needs keeping an eye on.

I will be showing it to my dealer and will report back what they have to say/do.

Just a thought.

The bit that is worn on mine is not visible when the seat belt is parked.

To check you need to sit in the drivers seat and place the seat belt on as normal.

Then pull the belt from out of the pillar by another foot and then check - as I said the worn bit was over my shoulder.

The rest of the belt is ok.

I think a belt in that condition would fail an MOT. Me think its a trip back to the dealer to get it replaced under warranty.
Have you checked the other seatbelts to see if they are wearing at all  ______________________

Mr Wolf, I would certainly get that replaced, another couple of years and that's an MOT fail by the looks of it.
It seems the rubbing is taking place during driving from your description, a part of the belt that many drivers will never see as it disappears back into the hole the minute you remove it.

Defintely a warranty issue, the seat belt fabric should not be wearing like that.

2. Examine the condition of all seat belt webbing for cuts or obvious signs of deterioration. Pay particular attention to webbing around anchorages, buckles and loops. 2.

a. a cut which causes the fibres to separate

b. fluffing or fraying sufficient to obstruct correct operation of the belt or which has clearly weakened the webbing

c. stitching badly frayed, not secure, incomplete or repaired

how much is a new one from lr??
