Well just covered 379 miles at the weekend in my FR2 auto and managed an astoninshing 42 mpg over the total journey at an average speed of 51.0mph !recorded on the trip ! my wife did the fisrt stint at 75mph + and MPG started hanging around the 39mpg and I set the crusie at 63mph for the return journey and the average went up. I still have 211 miles showing on the range, this is by far the best yet and at 17000 mile son normally BP diesel.

Whether the improvement can be attributed to the extra earth strap some will doubt, but then why are there some companies producing earth booster which claim a gain in economey ?

Well i would of agreed with you but having been a vehicle diagnostic technician for 35 years I can assure you many many faults are caused by bad earths, but also electrical noise under the bonnet also cause's interuppted signals to the ECU casuing many issues. I have had to wrap many a cable or use aircraft braded cable from a sensor and earth it one end to ensure a clean precise signal for accuarte engine control.
Electrical noise can be caused by static and or bad earths and cause havoc in general. So whilst i wouldnt go overkill on the cables they are offering on the link, I would still take the principle seriously.
One think I can also vouch for is that i have never ever been able to achieve any thing like 42mpg with my Auto on a long run and the particular run i did is a regular one to see family, normally used to get 33-36 best, once I think i got 37.6 and that was crusie control set the whole way at 65mph.

Triple 7, are you sure its advisable to run your tank that low ? poor old pump will be running on air ! best way to shorten the life of a diesel pump. I never drop below a quarter. There are a lot of vehicle manufactures now that advise that if a vehicle runs outs you should put at least 20 ltrs of fuel in the tank before attempting to start due to the pump struggling to pick up fuel and the damage it causes.
The lights are good at Amesbury now but wonder how the traffic will queue back on a B/H weekend, I guess it will be even longer now !

I wonder if I set my Cruise control a little slower I might get better mpg

The two cars I had prior to my FL2 that were fitted with cruise control were less economical when cc was used.

Tbh I rarely us mine, only on longer trips when towing Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I just bought 2m of starter cable from a car accesory shop and soldered two heavey duty eyelets on the ends. bolted one end under a gearbox bolt by the starter and the other end on the spare stud sticking up on the neg battery post terminal.

Not a stupid question, It wont do any harm, if it drives better then you know it had a bad earth before !
The norm seems to be " HDC disabled " on very cold start up, advised very common and they all do it ! well since fitting its been fine even at -6 and severe frost. Obviously I benifitted from many other improvements as well as a bonus.

i think i need a SD4

My auto is doing an average of 32mpg. Just turned 40k miles. On a trip of any more than 100 miles with open roads and opportunity to cruise (if that's possible in the uk!!) at 70 to 80, mine returns 40 mpg. I Can't be bothered to try for anymore, as you have to drive so f g slowly, CG will overtake in his tractor

42mpg is very good going though  Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass
