I do not know how you guys are achieving that. I am lucky if I see over 26 mpg in mine...

Absolutely stunned, got 40.9 mpg on 90 mile jaunt to Suffolk today. Gotta be an all time record for me. Maybe the engine is finally loosening up.

43.5mpg from an auto!
On a leisurely 320 mile round trip at the weekend from Sussex to South Wales and back I clocked an average 43.5 mpg. I am stunned as I usually get about 37.5 on long motorway run. Not bad for a 57 Auto! At one point I was averaging 46.1mpg.

The saving will go towards the £5.70 you have to pay to get into Wales. Funny - it's free to get out. - 2007(57) XS Auto, Rimini Red, Alpaca Leather.

Cruise control attempts to keep a constant speed, as compared with a human foot on the throttle which is constant fuel burn. Going up hill, or getting back up to cc speed after slowing, the cc will accelerate you quite fast. Result is higher fuel consumption.

Having said that I use cc a lot on motorways etc, just to give my right foot a rest.

yes agree, on trip to Aberdeen at weekend I averaged 40.8mpg in my manual using cruise control wherever possible.

without the cruise control I can average 46mpg easily, but like you Brian I wanted to rest my right foot.

My computer says "must have been held up by caravans" - must be using a different browser or an applemac - but that's another story. - 2007(57) XS Auto, Rimini Red, Alpaca Leather.

well done, Thumbs Up
that's careful driving then ? Just goes to show it can be achieved.
I must admit one of the many loaners I had recently was a 2WD eD4 and that did 47+ over 300 miles + and over 50mpg in the first 170 miles !
I don't know how some people get in the low 20's ! I get 23.7 towing 2 tons of twin axle caravan and i don't bother with economy then !
Mind you mine used to do 26 mpg until the issue of hesitation and auto-box were fixed so who knows whether whether theirs is right or wrong

I've just done a 200 mile trip mostly motorway, 45mpg sat around 70mph. Didn't use cruise control. Although it's now down to 40 around town. Was showing 28mpg before I reset it and that was with very short town journeys. D3 did 34mpg over same motorway journey.

We get a pretty constant 31mpg from our auto. Towing a 750kg trailer that drops to 26mpg.
If I try very very hard (without CC) I can acheive a true (ie not OBC) 34mpg but my god it's boring!

This has always been our major disappointment with the FL2. Dealer says there's nothing wrong and all FL2's of our era do around 30mpg. Later versions are better but still nowhere near as good as the official figures. FL2 GS Auto '58reg
