Who makes the FL2 engine/ intermittant fault

I have just been told that Citreon make the TD4 Diesel engine. I ask because I have just had my 45000 mile service done and not by a Landrover dealer. One of the problems I have been having for more that a year is an intermittant fault which is the revs going up 300 - 500 rpm when accelerating hard from around 50 mph in 5th gear. The car does not speed up until the revs drop back, its like the clutch is slipping although no other symptoms of a slipping clutch. The guy who serviced the car said that its a fault with the duel mass flywheel as he has repaired a few under Citreon warranty?

Anybody got any experience of this problem? Very Happy Very Happy

The engine is a joint (and fairly equal) project between PSA (Peugeot / Citroen) and Ford. Also used in Jaguars and Land Rovers. With the engine having been extensively revised by Ford for Land Rover use, I'd call it a Ford engine if you feel the need to.

The mechanic also told me that the fuel filter is exactly the same as the Citreon but the Citreon one only costs a few pounds compared to the Landrover one at more than £20. Again being ripped off and paying for the name!

Yes that sounds like a slipping clutch problem. It happened to me, landrover replaced the clutch under warranty. SOmething to do with the automatic ajuster sticking with the dust from the clutch plate. Design fault. Contact landrover and tell them, you might be lucky and get them to do it for you free of charge, If not your looking at £1000 ouch Big Cry

Where you take your car?? £1000 seems a little excessive for a clutch, considering it's only £150 for a clutch!

I have had the car at the dealers twice and they can find no fault, the problem is intermittant although starting to occur more often now. I will get it back into the dealers soon and inform them of what I was told about the duel mass flywheel.

engine maker

I understand the engine is designated as a DW12 by Peugeot. I am familiar with the DW10, and the 12 is similar in many ways.
Pity the oil filter housing is at an upward angle, the DW10 is horizontal, which would have been easier to access in a Freelander. Stamped into the sump, and cast into the transmission case is FomoCo, so where they are actually assembled is something I would like to know. Is this engine also in Mondeo?

I had the exact problem as you.

I've just had the DMF/clutch replaced under warranty. The Pug 4007/Citroen Crosser/Mit Outlander suffer with the same problem as they all use the same PSA/Ford powertrain. It's a big job to replace, around a day in all. The clutch slip on my FL2 was caused by the DMF.
What i don't know is whether the new parts have been modified to prevent the problem occuring again. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

As I understand it the engine is also built at Dagenham at Fords "Centre of Diesel Excellence"

Taking garage costs, it costs £850 to renew the propshaft oilseal in the diff in a BMW M3, and the seal costs £2 I was only wrong once and thats when I thought I was but wasnt.

I remember my MK1 Mondeo costing £650 for a new clutch 13years ago. Parts cost is not the issue, it depends how labour intentive the job is. A min if £100 per hour and it doesn't take long to have a mortgage like bill Sad Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass
