I want one now!!. Having thought long and hard about it im thinking the positives of a fl2 are outweighing the extras that come with a disco3.

Thank you for the tyre info. I was wondering if I was going to have to buy a winter set of tyres.

The snow is an issue for me as it was the bad fall this year that tipped me into going for a 4x4 earlier than I was thinking. It took me 7 hours to do a 1 hour journey. The car got me home (somehow) and then didnt move for about 2 weeks. But I do realise that no amount of special tyres or how advanced the off road system is on any car. They will all skid on ice!. Rolling with laughter

Apologies for sounding patronising its just that a surprising number of people get quality LR products and are so blown away be the abilities that its easy to forget the obvious. Not me you understand Whistle Laughing

That said, when going down a steep side street covered with slippery compacted snow, HDC on slowest setting took me down without even a hint of a skid Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Hi Drift Puma

I reluctantly came out of an e90 330i (best car I have owned) into a 2007 (57) FL2 SE and all I can say is, I like it very much.... very much indeed!!!

The best bits are as those have already said, it is amazing off road (all things considering) and will go far further than you ever would think, it is brilliant in the snow (but then compared to a bimmer anything is!) and is a very good drive. I bought ours as we have 3 children and it is one a few 'cars' that dont look like wheel chair carriers that can fit 3 in the back (Disco 3 and RRS excepted) and so it made perfect sense. Agreed the boot could be bigger, but my mate just bought an early x5 and it is not much smaller, take the luggage cover off and pile to the top and it is positively massive!

It drive well but it is no sport saloon, however it seems to make up for this as it is such a good cruiser... I miss the out right niceness of the bimmers 6 pot petrol but the only time I ever really got to use it was leaving the traps on the M6 toll!

There is a definite 'thing' going on with Landrovers that get under your skin, you could call it character I suppose but either way all of my family have fallen in love with it (the kids love the rear headrest video's which are perfect for our long tours to france)

As for reliability, I have had some problems, all sorted by the garage and none of which has caused a breakdown... more of an annoyance than anything. If you do not buy from a main dealer, I would try and check the history and see what has been done as there is a fair list for early models and if it has been owned by someone complacent you may find none of these things have been done and without warranty you will be stuck. The things on my car include B pillar trim, wheel arch trim, steering rack, reservoir and pump, Q106 program (auto box) oh and a problem with wheel balance !

Other than that - I can fully recommend one...Oh finally all the good ones are black and dont have a tow bar Thumbs Up Good luck Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

Thanks or all your tips, especially the comparisons with BMW's. Sounds like the Freelander2 has the capabilities that I need. Hopefully going to be test driving one next week sometime. Actually feel what the vehicle is like. Thanks again Thumbs Up

2010 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Auto Zermatt Silver

had mine from new. about 7 months old.

broke down once [failed fuel filter] was told by LR it just wasn't "made properly" [pathetic excuse really]

was enough for me to think to sell it after a year ... so considering selling next year.

if you got the £££ then fuel wont be a problem... about £80 something on full tank [2.2 eng]... fill every 2.5 weeks.

best thing about it is the comfort. it is seriously comfortable. could drive around the whole of England and i wouldn't need to get out to stretch legs.

in automatic the gear change isn't noticeable when driving normally, more noticeable when you floor the gas.

XS and HSE sound systems are REALLY good.

good external size, beefy look, loads of inside room, front and rear. very large boot.

I had this after a service in my FL1 - I really do believe there was a production fault. Freelander 1 TD4 HSE - gone, 2 weeks after the Cat.Converter!

The sound system in my GS is excellent too. I suspect the XS and HSE have 6 disc changer. Other than that the audio system in mine is Alpine with subwoofer in boot and bluetooth system and ipod connection. 6 disc doesn't bother me as I tend to use ipod. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I have had mine for early 4 years now, it was only about 6-7 months old when we bought it.

It is now on 43000 miles, so far, it had a clutch at 25000 miles due to the early cars clutch slip between 1800 and 2200rpm. A new mirror and a boot switch (£17).

I have been more than happy with it, so much so we went looking at LR dealers at possible replacements today, but more about this in my other thread.

But I still love it, I think the only reason I would consider changing is to get an auto. I still have the novelty factor after nearly 4 years. I would recommend one to any one. Hi all,

well I have just had an experience at LR centre at Luton Hoo. One question that I have come away with is that the range on the trip computer was 218 miles on nearly a full tank of fuel. Now I know that it can change with driving styles etc but it didnt go up much from that even when cruising on the road. Is this normal or was the trip computer reading it wrong? As its a figure that seems extremely low.

Apart from that loved the vehicle Very Happy . But this is the only thing stopping me seeing how nice the bank manager wants to be to me!! Rolling with laughter Bow down

Thumbs Up

Those cars spend much of their lives crawling about hills and offroad courses so will have low mpg

I get 300 miles out if a tank doing the same short town driving all be it onroad Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I do all town and motorway type driving (don't off-road at the moment) and get about 450 miles to a tank.

Varies depending upon my driving style Whistle

But on a long motorway run it does get better again depends on how you drive. 2002 Honda VFR800

Range on my MY11 TD4 manual is about 540 miles on a full tank, range on the MY11 SD4 auto I was in at Rockingham LRE about 220 miles on a full tank due to it spending almost all its time in 1st gear on the off road course.

I believe there is a member on here who has bought an eD4. I wonder how many more miles you can get out of a full tank in one of those. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby
