The info about Castrol Edge Professional A5 5W-30 can be found here:
http://www.castrol.com/castrol/genericarti...Id=7068035

Oil Specifications:
ACEA A1/B1, A5/B5
API SM/CF
ILSAC GF4
Meets Ford WSS-M2C-913C
Please note that oils meeting the Ford WSS-M2C913C specification are backwardly compatible with WSS-M2C913B engine oils as specified for FL2 by LR.

But even the Castrol Magnatec 5w30 A1 can be used as it also meets both A1/B1 and A5/B5 norm.
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-754-castrol-ma...-ford.aspx

So now are many types of oils to choose from...

As for the source of the info, it's a Special Service Message, from LR, SSM50837.
I've downloaded it from the Topix website.

Thanks again Alex Thumbs Up
But although the Edge Prof. C1 5w-30 oil is listed on the Norwegian Castrol site, if I do a search for the reccomened oil for my Freely on the same web site it still states:
MAGNATEC A1 5W-30
LAND ROVER incl. RANGE ROVER
Freelander 2 2.2 TD4 (118kW)
Motor
DT
Årsmodell
2006-
A1

I know what I will be using in future Thumbs Up 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.
Stornoway Grey with Ebony Black Pleather, Clear Indicators, Body Side Mouldings etc.

The Castrol Edge Proffesional C1 5W30 is recommended for DPF equipped engines.

For non-DPF equipped engines: Castrol Edge Professional A5 5W30, Castrol Magnatec A1 5W30, etc

My FL2 was built in July 2007 (but not registered before Nov) and must have been one of the first with DPF in Norway. Yours being a ogiginal Tambora Flame and was probably built earlier - 2006 maybe Question and probably does not have a DPF. In any case you should be able to tell from the road tax you paid - less for DPF vehicles - and maybe it is stated on the logbook (ownership document) 160 BHP (no DPF) 152 (with DPF).
Hope that helps Question 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Thanks Andy. I pay full road tax so that would suggest I don't have a DPF! Wuhu! Extra power! Smile
Anyone know if it is possible to read from the VIN if the car has DPF or not?

If Alex say I can run the C1 anyway I gues it doesn't matter Smile DO you know anyone that sell the C1 in Norway Andy? I know Bilxtra sell Castrol, but not the edge pro. FL2, TD4 HSE

Yes. Install Microcat for Land Rover and enter there the VIN and it will tell you all about that car.
You can find the Microcat program (for Land Rovers, as it exists for other makes too) on the net, on torrents.
The program, how to install it, how to run it, the way you run it Wink , etc.
More of that I can't say, as it will infringe the copyright stuff... Wink
Or PM me your VIN, if you want, and I will tell you.

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 S Manual Stornoway Grey

Hi All, well today I decided to change the oil and filter.
I read this thread this morning in order to work out what to do, however, when it came to it I reckon going in from the top was easier.

So, after removing the engine protection plate underneath, I went in here:

and removed the short rigid section of the intercooler pipe work:

This allowed me to get a bog standard adjustable spanner in there on the oil filter housing:

and for those who haven't done it themselves yet, this is what it looks like:

and the hex moulding:

In future, I'll be getting a nice ratchet ring spanner to do the job instead of the adjustable.
Personally, I found it a lot easier than what this thread lead me to expect.
So, I recommend others to do it yourself.

Of course.....I would never suggest you put "bargain oil" in our precious engines.......but quality, conformist oil, obtained at "bargain price!"

I've just completed my first oil change of my Freelander 2. Removing the Filter Filter Cover was quite difficult and without the correct tools is damn near impossible.
I used a Flexible Stubby Ratchet (3/8 drive) with a 27mm Shallow Oil Filter Socket.
Please note that the Oil Filter Cover takes a lot of effort to remove. I had to use a length of Pipe with the above tools and even then, because of the fine thread, took a fair bit of effort.
Next time I'll try using a 27mm Flexible Ratchet Spanner, as I think that will improve leverage and make the job much easier.
