Back on topic.

I have done 23k on my set of tyres and I cannot see me changing them before 30k but there must be others out there that have done more.

Shame really as I have a new spare set ready to go on just on inferior rims. Whistle p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Performance also concerns me as I currently drive a Honda Civic Type R.

I'm considering the Freelander as my next car and I have a BMW Z4M as my daily driver - 23mpg, 0-60 in 4.9sec...seriously mad car with an 8k rev range! More akin to your Civic R than a 4x4.

I'm very familiar with the Discovery TDV6 and it is just a completely different drive. The Land Rover's aren't about speed, more about cruising in comfort over any terrain you choose to travel over.

When I drive the Discovery (my Dad's) I don't feel "wow, this is so slow and boring compared to my Z4M" instead, I enjoy the 4x4 driving experience; height, comfort, cruising...

With the Auto diesel I get 29 mpg. I am expecting to get better economy as the car is fairly new (2000 km's on the clock).

Mine is a manual & has got just over 1000 miles on it now & only returns an average of just over 26MPG - is this normal?
Apparently there is a company that can add 25BHP & give 10% extra fuel consumption for £400 to the FL2. Has anyone done this? (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

I would not go down this road as I don't feel the transmission will take it, you may want to look at the links below.

happymadison1978 there ok on a Silver car Thumbs Up

Executive Valeter Driving style, temperature and duty are key factors with MPG so it's hard to get a true overall MPG but as CG says it will improve as the engine beds in.

Transmission is stronger than people think I know of a few that have remapped with great success and remain problem free Thumbs Up
