I had this on our FL2 and FFRR, if you use GGS a lot of the time it seems to set to GGS for a for the next few starts even if left over night, then goes back to starting in normal mode if you dont use it or de-select it Thumbs Up

That's odd. Went out for lunch today. In GGS mode as country lanes nicely snow and slushy. Got back in car and was back in Normal, so had to reselect GGS..... No real bother as I noticed it as part of the pre-flight checks Thumbs Up

And no we didn't have a 6 hour lunch Rolling with laughter

,
Has anyone managed to get this fixed and what was the cause? Mine has developed the same problem and the dealer is puzzled.

Thanks

When using any setting on the TR, turn the dial back to normal then one extra notch before turning off the engine. My co driver says this cancels out the "bug", but I forget to try this Whistle

Have you tried Mr C's suggestion?

Actually Mrs. C's - I forget to try it every time, but Mrs. says it works Thumbs Up
Last week the TR was working "normally" - that is if used in GGS and parked for a while, it was in the normal position when started again - which is as it should be according to the book Thumbs Up 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

mcphersonstrut, Thanks for your reply. I have considered the one more notch theory but haven't done it yet.
My dealer says he has had 6-7 people reporting the same problem since the snow ended. I have made arrangements to take it in next Friday to actually show them what is happening. Sods law states it will work perfectly that day.

Thanks again

This is most probably a firmware bug related to saving (or not) the previously used setting in non-volatile memory. I've experienced the same thing on a few occasions and the behaviour seems random, so I don't think it's a feature - I'm pretty sure it's supposed to reset to normal after switching off - perhaps with a time delay, since it could be assumed the driving conditions wouldn't change quickly.

According to The Blue Book in the Blue Pleather holder it states on page 133:
The special programs remain active for six (6) hours after the ignition is turned off. If the ignition is turned on again within six (6) hours the program will remain active. After six (6) hours the general program is automatically selected.

So it is quite clear to me how the TR should work, but like AndyT, occasionally the system behaviour seems random.
Earlier our TR stayed in the last selected program overnight, recently it seems to function as it should, except that if the ignition is turned off for just a half hour or so, the TR reverts back in the general program when turned on again. We have never considered this a problem because we always check the dashboard display before driving off (and now mrs. does the extra notch thing). Thumbs Up 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

I've been looking for something else to the offroad driving manual, but found this. I bet this is the explanation everyone was waiting for for a long while. That explains why some cars might have been behaving differently.

It's from the detailed explanation of terrain response from the FFRR section (page 22 offroad manual):

First it explains the 6 hour bla bla and then it goes like this:

"It is possible to have the Terrain Response system configured so that if the Grass Gravel Snow program is selected, and the starter switch is turned off, the system will not default back to the General program after the six hour period. The Grass Gravel Snow program will remain selected until it is deselected manually. Consult your Land Rover Dealer/Authorised Repairer." 2010 Freelander 2 Select TD4 auto....gone
