Replacing the FL2 Premium stereo

I've decided to get rid of the premium audio unit which came with my fl2 and replace it with something a bit more competent. However, because it appears to be linked to a remote amp via fibre-optic connections it is not the simple task of plugging in an adapter that I have done with previous vehicles.

Does anybody here have experience of doing a similar replacement? My ideal is that I do not cause any real damage and can put the original unit back in place should the need arise but that may require me to install my own wiring loom for the new stereo

Not even close to the obstacles I appear to be encountering. Apparently not even wiring directly to the speakers will work (I have had an installer try this) and he is now looking at a way of linking a 3rd party head unit to the onboard amp. The steering controls shouldn't be a problem as I have a gizmo for that.

I want to stop short of tearing every last bit of "audio" out and replacing it, but it remains an option Smile
