New Vehicles

I wonder how many new vehicle "users" know how much the price of the car is?

Just been bombarded with a pop up ad for new Evoque , £349 deposit and £349 per month.

No mention of purchase price!

Shocked

I spoke to my accountant before buying my car on pcp, he said go for it thats what I do,
Still concerned I may be in a loop now, having to change cars every 3 years. but presently at £320/mth for a high spec disco sport, so enjoying the calm before the storm?

important not to use pcp to get in a car thats "above your station", thats when it goes wrong At work

Wow! Shocked

I am old fashioned, like the feeling of it being mine.

Suppose it works if you keep it a long time?

The Evoque is due to be replaced so deals should be easy to come by. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

my work colleague her father is not short of cash he has a bentley RRFF and a vw polo all on pcp.

Gone are the days when people wanted to own a vehicle,

maybe with these fancy cars its best to have one on pcp and full warranty for when things go wrong.

he reckons we all fools for paying cash and owning one

Colleague at work bought her VW Touran on PCP and was due to replace it earlier in the year. Spoke to dealers in advance and was told there was a 'shortfall' in the residual value of around £5000. When she queried it, they referred her to some clause in the small print (which of course very few people read thoroughly) so bottom line she had to find that shortfall before upgrading her car. She ended up keeping the car, with a new agreement in place, for about £50 pm less than the initial terms.
PCPs seem to be an easy way of younger people financing a new shiny car which they wouldn't otherwise be able to buy. Car park at work full of Beemers, Mercedes and suchlike all bought this way. Don't think any of them appreciate that they're tied in and will never own the car - priority seems to be one of having that brand new car to parade themselves around in.

Are some pcp not where you can hand car back and walk away, maybe they have changed was the cost not due to going over the mileage allowance as that can be costly?

I would hate the not knowing of what would happen after the 3 yr period.

garages prefer to do the pcp route i believe as its better for them.

Many years ago, the government decreed that car adverts had to show the On-the-road price of the car being advertised. That seems to have been bypassed now by these monthly pcp deals - the adverts give you absolutely no idea what the annual or total cost of ownership is going to be.

I wonder how many people are 'suckered in' by these seemingly cheap deals, and then find they can't afford it? Or alternatively, if they make it to the end of the 3 years contract, they find they can't afford to pay for all the 'wear and tear' charges?

One of my mates has his BMW on pcp his motorbike on pcp his wife’s car the same he has told me they are in this trap now after the last monster payment is due they have either got to get a loan to pay the last payment or start all over again with a new pcp, it’s win win for the car dealers.

either chop it in or get a loan to finish the payments, its money due on your purchase, so either stick to a car you can afford anyway or feel the balloon payment as something to be feared. At work
